    Hi all,

I'm complete new to figures but somehow motivated myself to start one.

    Its the Miniart kit
    [IMG]

This may be the wrong start, but anyway, this is where I am now.

The colors are all acrylic from different branches.

So, what do you pros think of it? Honest answers please, I'm old enough to stand criticism.

    Thanks a lot!

Looks good so far. Keep us Updated.

Martin, welcome to the Planet! A Mini Art Kit is an excellent, less-expensive place to start! What you have so far looks good. Figure painting is a study in lights and shadows. Don't be afraid to push some shadows into the armor. Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks guys for the warm words.

@Bad91Fellow: I will check out this book.

@Sambaman: Well I'll try to place some shadows into the armor at a later stage.

    Thanks again

    Hello Martin,

you certainly are a brave man for starting this hobby with a kit from this firm.
I've started one of their kits some time ago and was not impressed by the fit of the pieces.
Having said that I must admit that they are inexpensive and fun to work with.
Have a look at my post for some more info.

    Gentlemen,

    thanks for your kind remarks.
In the last couple of months a lot have changed in my life. We started to build up a new house, so modelling has to wait for a while. The old greek is packet up for the movement already, but I will continue next year.

    Read you then!

You might want to try an oil paint wash to make the bronze pop out.
    Very good start.

    Thanks gents :)

@DWH: except some 1/72 Pilots seated in cockpits this is my first real figure.

@theseaker: yes an oil paint wash is one of the things I have to do and I want to correct the right eye. But there are a lot of other things left.

Ah malepo i'm jealous! I'm doing the spartan hoplite and the upper skirt pieces didnt go on the skirt to well so the chest armor sits ontop of the upper pieces instead of over them like yours.. Makes mine look goofy as heck now :(. Great work so far though!

    Hi Maglar,

I really can't see what you mean. Your old Greek does look good to me.

Mine is some steps further, not finished, sure :)

    Thanks a lot gents :)

as the helmet struggles me too much I started to do the rope where the sword will be carried

The sword is almost finished now:

    1. I made some decals and printed them

    2. cutting out and separation

    3. decal placed and final wash

For the speer I started the wood

and then I restarted the helmet - well the masking for the first row

    Very good stuff.

not often I see airbrush & masking efforts on here, glad to see them.

Printing own decals too...from your Aircraft hobby. Looks good....

Excellent stuff, your mastery of the basic skills has carried over well

    Thanks for sharing
