APATHY ALIVE & WELL ON PLANET FIGURES.

I never thought the day would come that I felt I would have to post a thread on P F with a title like this.

On Thursday 11th July I posted a thread on this forum, Not advertising the release of a Bust, Seeking praise in painting a bust or figure or asking how to do something.

I was asking the memberships thoughts on holding a Junior Figure of the month Competition. Link https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/junior-fotm-competition.160625/
The idea being to encourage and inspire confidence in youngsters who wish to progress within the hobby

With a total of 146 views. Five members took the trouble to vote ( excluding myself) of which one expanded on his vote with a post.

I would like to thank the five members who took the time to reply. ( mergroot, Old Pete, Blind Pew , oldtrousers & Bablefish.)

With the apathy shown I would think this is a non starter.

Was it too much to ask you to vote in a poll.

    Mick.

somehow I have missed the thread you mentioned, and therefore did not visit or vote.

The most likely reason I did not see your thread is that I do not follow threads in the 'general figure talk' tab. I check the'figure news' tab regularly, the FOTM when the tab indicates there is/are a new post(s), check the vbench and completed section, as well as some others. Only when the fancy takes me (such as for some reason this morning) do I check some of the other tabs. I am assuming lots of other people on here do exactly the same: checking what interest them, then move on.

I do not think apathy is the reason for the low response, as there are other factors that may have influenced the low interest in your thread (such as the warm weather, life commitments resulting in restricted time available to brows the forum for things outside our immediate area of interest, competition from other internet things such as farcebook, twitter and the likes)

Going back to your idea, I think there is merit in it in as far that it may interest younger people who are already involved in the hobby AND on this forum to share their work. Not sure how effective it is on attracting younger people in the hobby - a common theme no matter what your interests are, young people have so many distractions available to them these days (not to mention lots of peer pressure on how to present yourself to yourself and the world) they seem to struggle maintaining a level of commitment to anything (exceptions just go to prove my point).

Just my 2 cents of thoughts, and I hop I did not offend anyone, as such was not my intention.

Oh dear ! To have an idea - inspired clearly by the best of motives - seemingly met by a deafening silence, is obviously frustrating, annoying,
and disappointing. When you posted your response you were, no doubt, gripped emotionally by things. But for a man with your experience,
skill, and high standing within this forum, to react with such heat, I'm sorry to say, smacks a bit of petulance.

A cooler head might suggest that apathy or indifference might not be responsible here - it might well be that members thought little of the idea
and mindful of your status here respectfully declined to vote.

    Don't shoot the messenger...........

Agree totally with Mike and found your attack on members, many of whom support your business, frankly insulting. I think it is safe to assume that not everyone spends their life on PF, like I am sure many others I only open threads that are of interest to me for example anything 20th century doesn't get opened and busts are of moderate interest if Napoleonic. Perhaps it might have been logical to conclude a lack of interest rather insulting the membership. I have a feed to me mobile of every post on PF and delete around 50% without even opening them, there just isn't the time to look at everything....it doesn't make me apathetic!

Many people give a lot of time and effort to this forum Mick and posts like this reflect badly on the forum as a whole-I can only conclude that this was a heat of the moment situation for which you might like to apologise.

Have to agree with some of Keith’s comments above. I have limited time and take the time I do have in the day to look at threads that may be of interest to me. FOTM is something I typically skip over.
No insult intended by me and I don’t feel insulted.
As to JFOTM, I see no problem with giving it a try.
I prefer to try and promote the hobby locally via my club by volunteering when I can at painting demo tables at gaming and hobby shows.

I get your frustration Mick after you went to the trouble of canvassing opinion on something that you clearly feel quite passionate about. But a lot of guys probably have no strong feelings about it one way or the other and so felt no need to vote or comment on it (which is fair enough), and - as others have said - many probably didn't even see it.

Most of us are selective on what we look at on here anyway, we lead busy lives and there simply isn't time to go through everything when we stop by on pF for our daily fix. Besides which, some of it just doesn't interest me enough to bother with it. Out of the 20+ sub-forums on pF, there are maybe half a dozen that I look at regularly, a couple more occasionally, and the rest never. It's nowt to do with "apathy" though. And I'd wager that it's probably the same with the vast majority of members.

I think maybe you've taken it a tad too personally mate. Crack open a cold one and relax .... it's just the weather for it today!

Mick, I have only just seen this thread and you closed the poll before I saw it.
I am not apathetic to PF but this subject does not interest me one way or the other so I would not have voted.
I don't respond to lots of threads, I have zero interest in fantasy for example whether new products or completed figures so ignore them.
I have opened new threads which attracted little response and replied to threads and my reply ignored but I don't take offence.
    Abstention isn't necessarily apathy.

    Greetings.
First let me say I do not intend to get into handbags at dawn with anyone over this thread.

If you did not see the thread for what ever reason so be it we dont all see every thread & post.

The original thread was up for 14 days and as stated seen by 147 members which five (5) took the trouble to reply.

So one can only assume the 142 members we did see it couldn't be bothered to read it or reply therefore having no interest.

At the time of writing this post some 8.5 hrs later there have been 110 views and 7 replies to this thread. In addition the original post has now received double the amount of views (300) and 16 posts. As both posts were put on the same sub forum General Figure Talk, what changed. Its a great shame that the time, effort & energy spent on this thread could not have been spent on the original thread.

Whether you are fore or against the idea all that was asked was a tick in a box, wasn't much to ask.

I hadn't seen the post either, and like the others I don't care to lectured about it. No wonder I post less and less on here with this sort of crap

Pity Mick you just don't get it do you. This thread attracted more response because of the insulting headline....not surprising.

    Again lots of good comments

My suggestion is we have Junior section where parents can post their sons/daughters pieces .....

Let this run till /end Sept early October and based on the response decide if it's worth doing a gallery

    THOUGHTS PLEASE
