    Thanks for looking.
My version of Verlindens Newspaper seller.
Replaced his head with a shouting head from Hornet to give him a bit of animation. Self sculpted moustache and hair.
Any comments or advice are always welcomed.

Brilliant work - it’s incredible the difference that can be made to a stock figure simply by changing the head & doing a bit of resculpting. Fantastic!

How about "War Declared"? Remember seeing that on a photo of a newspaper seller in the 1960s-vintage Purnell's History of the Second World War.

    Thanks for the encouragement.
As for the headlines, this is my crib sheet.

I like to think he's called Alf, smokes roll-ups and did his time in the trenches with the local regiment during the last war. (does anyone else make up stories as they work ?)

    Hi

Nice crib board there ...what about adding his WW1 medals as well .......sure Alf would have worn them with pride

    Like the story behind him

Nice simple conversion (though not too keen on the stand).

Funnily, to me he has a European look (I think it's the cap). I could just imagine him with his Nazi party lapel pin (and yes Nap, proudly wearing his WW1 medals) flogging Der Sturmer, Volkischer Beobachter or somesuch on the streets of Berlin (or Nuremberg?). The apron thingie (original boxart has newspaper) doesn't seem typically UK either, but I can imagine this, or an apron of some sort on a German*.

For UK there's another good ref here:

... and I like this French bod:

Funnily enough, I can't find any German ones.

*my in-law's partner is German and he seems to have an apron for each and every occasion

How about 'Peace in our time!' or 'Chamberlain resigns!' or even maybe 'Germany/Japan surrenders!'

    Wow a big thanks .

Ta for the ideas . The top right picture on my crib sheet is the original photo Verlinden have worked from and he's selling British newspapers.
I do have some German civilian plans but they're way down the line.
Thanks for the other pictures, I like the french man and the Home Guard gives me an idea for a future project.

    Nap
I have some more bits to go on, coin bag etc so he might get his medals.

    Matt
LOL. I'm not sure how I'm going to write "War declared" yet anything longer is a none starter.

Ah, so it is  .

My confusion was that the box artwork seems to show him wrapped in newsprint rather than headline posters as per the original.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
I've added a coin purse under his coat and his medal ribbons. I think hes about ready for paint.
ps I've found some 1/32 aircraft letter decals which I think I'm going to use to write the headlines on.

Very nice indeed - like the shade you’ve chosen for his jacket, & it’s highlights & shading.
