Excellent rendition of a superbly sculpted figure.

    Hi all,
Sorry for the delay on the finished pics as this went out just after christmas, a gift from a newly Retired Drum Major to an even older one :), one of my former DMs.
The figure is very matt which doesnt show due to flash and has washed a lot of the shadows out especially on the whites, I have some better daylight pics but if honest it got to the point I had to finish as it was a present and that was always the main intention.
It is is painted very much in the traditional oil style and I know lacks character, just wanted a nice neat ceremonial figure ( they are all characters under that white helmet believe me )
Some things I enjoyed, I didnt enjoy the deadline and would do things different given longer time but I think he looks ok.
    Best wishes
Must give a big thanks to Richard of Oakwood and Nameit, they did me proud and especially on limited notice, thanks to both :)))))
Best wishes to you all, now back to casting :))))
    Gra

Not sure if images are making figure stubby or my screen, I think if viewed as image may look better, he is quite a tall slim fig in reality.

Lovely job mate. Looks really good. I always thought that salute looked daft.

Lovely paintjob & I certainly wouldn't apologise for the traditional oil style.
    Great.

Damn fine job mate excellent metals finish......... Although the wrist looks a bit rigid on the salute shouldn't it be a bit limper  Seriously though the sash is a work of art in itself fantastic gift which I'm sure will be treasured by the new owner (y)

Great figure, pity there are no medals, would have finished the figure off. IMHO.

Thanks all, the reason no medals is he didn't have any :) seriously though he left before getting his long service and didn't qualify for any others, this is around 1985 and the others were mainly GSM and Falklands.
Because I wanted the figure to appeal to many drum majors I decided no medals in the master but will and still need to cast up and make a sheet of separate medals when time permits, they would be miniatures.
The RM Drum Majors are quite a small group and they can be particular about owning figures of other DMs and this would be noticeable if I had based it on a specific person and would have been identified by number of and choice of medals. The jubilee medals and recent tours for example which would indicate it was based on one of us younger DMs, some other older DMs had honours and more bars on the GSM etc
Hopefully this way I can personalise each figure to suit.
    :)))
Thanks again for the kind words and best wishes

They just to do the training at HMS Raleight, I remember watching it when I was going through basic training. It's a lot harder than it looks.

Perfect Graham just perfect. I can see him leading the band in the morning at RM Deal.
Bet he is very pleased with his present.

Just came across this thread as I was looking to buy one, excellent, great piece that has made me decide to order one to go with my GSM Mott and the other two guards.

  18. Wow, didn't think this thread would pop up again. Thanks for the kind words, quite poignant reading though as Diamond Cutter was the late Pete Morton. Will see what I can find ref parts Malc. Best wishes
