Following on from the first posting of this bust,i've now almost completed the tartan, all that's left for me to do here is the tiny bright wellow dots on the intersections of the green bands and the fringe plus the gilt broach.
On the last posting I had completed the basic tartan painting with the green and blue cheaquers.these were completed using the following Games Worshop paints :
    Sybarite Green
    Straken Green
    Loren Forrest Green
Caliban Green All these greens were darkened or lightened to suit using Humbrol acrylic Matt White (34) and Matt Black (33)
for the yellow I used Humbrol acrylic (24)
and the blue was done using Humbrol acrylic (25)
The black lines across and between the chequers was done using Matt black.
Unless youre painting a large figure or bust, its impossible to apply every black line on this pattern because there are so many of them, the trick to painting tartan is to make the viewew believe they are there.
When painting the paintern, always use a strong contrast, and once its darkened using a dark green wash, you wont lose the pattern and it will come through if done correctly.
I use a 50/50 oil wash and this also takes care of the shadows within the fold and crease areas.
Ive started on the single epaulette, and should finish this and the jacket in the next painting stage.

Thank you neil, its not a 5 minute job and care has to be taken to keep the pattern equal, thats why I did the tartan in 3 separate stages.
