    Hi

Just completed this from FeR, it’s sold as 1/12 but its a big bust for 1/12, probably closer to 1/10 but the size may be to get across the legendary size of this Viking Jarl. Depicted in 912 when he became the the first ‘unofficial’ Duke of Normandy. All in acrylics and out of the box apart from the scratch built cross and Thor’s hammer amulets. He converted to Christianity on his appointment but like all Vikings who converted probably edged his bets with the old gods too, hence wearing both a cross and hammer. Pure conjecture, but then again the whole bust is as no record of his appearance apart from his size really exists. Lovely piece to paint, I have used some of the texturing effects I picked up at Krill's workshop in March on him, BTW Julys TIHA should have coverage of the workshop in it.

Base from Richard at Oakwood nameplate from Name it.

    Cheers

Thanks all for you kind comments

Kev, it’s really cleverly engineered, there is the option of just hair, helmet, helmet with nasal or helmet with nasal and spectacles so thankfully I didn’t have to paint the face through the spectacles,

Not many busts or figures could stand up to scrutiny in close-up images like this without seeing errors but this is one of those exceptions. The details on the clothing and other effects are stunning!

    Thanks Ken, very kind!

Gary, I used to see Bill Horans work about 10 times bigger than it actually was on the cover of mil mod and think imagine being happy to put your work up to that scrutiny. I’m a long long way off that but its one of my objectives. I see errors of course we all do in our own work but that’s part of the motivation to keep trying. Thanks for your very kind words!

    Hi Hans

He was supposedly his brother, as seen in The Vikings TV programme, originally called Rollf he changed his name in 912 when he converted and became the unofficial first duke of Normandy. He is also the great great great grandfather of William the conqueror. Thanks for your comments!

    Cheers

Very impressive. Especially the red on white swirl pattern on the edge of the cloak. Is that a decal or hand-painted? Either way its brilliant.
