    Hi everyone

While working on Sarnia's Bill Speakman VC I wondered what else I had from them ...so off to the cupboards I went and found this

    image.jpeg

Whilst perhaps not to everyone's choice I went searching in my library and found this book

    image.jpeg

    .....looking through I found this

    image.jpeg

Looking around further I put together these for references

    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Now ..what shall I do ?

Very interesting Nap.The luftwaffe mess dress is rather eyecatching.I know W.SS is a contentious subject but Peters bust lends itself to all kinds of Putty pushing and conversion.
    Nice work Winkle.

So I had in front of me the original bust of the SS Officer.....and a dremel !!

You might notice that the head in these pics are different to the boxart .....big thanks to Jimbo who did this before I moved house last November !

Dremel on ......I removed all till I just had a nice smooth basic mess dress shape as in original .....

I sculpted the cords on the aguilettes after which I smooth talked MrsNap into doing some braiding with lead wire ......

This was then put into position ....and additional cords were put into place using magisculpt

I added the waistcoat as per original picture , building up each side after waiting for it' to dry fully

    Reworked the shirt front

Reworked the epaulettes , ranking him up a bit !

Replaced the eagle badge on right ..painting will bring details out more

Added buttons and retaining chain ( these 2 buttons holding chain are actually larger as in picture )

Also redid the eyebrows ...his not mine !!

The horsemanship award and Iron cross were then added

Above these are 3 medals with the ribbons as per German style they will be from L-R :

    4 years service ( with eagle )

Commemorative medal with Prague clasp )

    Memel Commemorative medal

Since the pics were taken I have replaced the medals with a slightly larger size and detailed tgem up painting will bring out details more

Not the best pics ..sorry !

Just because it's me thought I would post some more references

I am going to do mine as a officer in Flak unit with red waffenfarbe ( edging to the epaulettes ) .....wonder how many comments at shows I will get saying it shoukd be yellow for Luftwaffe!!

This is another version from a Flght Instructors uniform ( "L" ) with 2 waistcoat options and with ribbons rather than full medals

Blooming heck he "just"stuck a head on and a bit if hair ......LOL .......did a rather good job though ....originally I was going for the SS version , and wanted a more rugged look but it will look good on this fella ......after I did the eyebrows again !

As you say Mr Bob ...I had the easy part .......I wish !!

Another great project on the go Nap. Unusual and interesting subject and love the alterations you’ve made. Is it me or is there a hint of Rutger Hauer in that face?

    Hi mate

Thanks for commenting , the Sarnia is a good base to depict mess dress , as for the head yes think your right , a little bit!!...I blame Jimbo myself

I reworked the lower forehead and eyebrows a bit as well as adding another button on each side of jkt

Current position ...all primed and base coated , eyes done ....

same comment as on your femalee pilot bust - the irisses are a tad too large in my opinion. Otherwise, great work so far.

I can't remember exactly where, but I read somewhere that humans are the only animal, where the irissesssss (too many essess) are about 1/3 to 1/5 of the visible surface or the eyeball. I use this as a guide: the whites combined have to have a surface that is slightly larger than the coloured parts (see, I am learning, I am avoiding all the essessess:D )
