Given my passion for the Normandy landing, I wanted to honor the memory of this important anniversary by creating at least one subject from a unit that participated in this great historical event.
I then came up with the idea of ​​this subject inspired by a work by the great Calvin Tan, who, starting with a Tamiya truck driver, created a USN sailor.
I chose the figure from the Alpine Miniatures catalog.
So I started from what is proposed as a tank crew, to turn it into a engineer of the 5th ESB (Engineer Special Brigade) who landed on the beach of Omaha with the task of cleaning it from anti-tank obstacles, mines and to open the way out from the beach to allow the troops to break through the enemy lines.
I then removed the beautiful Colt to replace it with a more appropriate bag for the gas mask self-made with Magic Sculpt and with Royal Models buckles; also the added canteen is always from the Royal Models range.
The patch on the left shoulder was also carved.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked the idea and I hope that many others follow this example, that is to take a simple figure and represent units, maybe not fighters, not represented, but important at the same time.
Also the study of the land has had its importance, because usually we imagine the beaches of Normandy as all of sand, but the Omaha, near the exits, was composed of pebbles.
So I had to sculpt the stones one by one (I assure you that they are really small) but that I believe that once the work is done they perfectly make the ground as it is in reality.
