I agree with Mobo, this is quite a large scale and not easy to carry it off.

Lovely work, really like the composition and the dappled grey General Lee is riding is exquisite. Also like the outer coat of Jackson, works really well contrasting with his tunic.

Len may correct me but I believe this is a Ron Tunison bronze. They are LARGE (over 30cms high).
He did a range of subjects, mostly if not all american history. They cropped up quite often in miniature magazines in the 80's and were very expensive.

    Hi Bill,

This is indeed a Ron Tunison work and one of my favorites. It is a cold cast bronze approximately 200 mm+ scale. I posted this as a work in progress a few months ago with more detailed information. I have painted several Tunison pieces many of which I have posted on the forum. Tunison pieces are exquisite from the sculpting, composition, and presentation. The detail is incredible and the likenesses are spot on. All I do is apply the paint (artist's oils over enamel). This piece is one of my favorites and I spent a lot of time on research especially on Lee's uniform, which I think came out very accurate for the way he would have looked in late spring 1863. I used photos of Jackson's actual rubber raincoat as a painting reference. He was wearing it the night he was shot by his own troops and is on display at VMI. A manaquin of Jackson's horse, Little Sorrel, mounted with the horses actual hide is also on display at VMI. Sorrel appears to be much lighter in the photos than my horse came out, but I'm happy with the result. There are a number of photos of Lee's horse Traveller, but none clear enough to have a lot of detail. Lee described him as "A beautiful Confederate gray." I found a number of references where witnesses described Traveller as a dapple gray. So my rendition of Traveller is the result of blurry photos and and eye witness descriptions. Thanks everyone for the great feedback!
