Did you ever wonder what's going to happen to all the miniatures that you have painted or the artwork that you have created in your life that you have really put your heart into. And then did you ever realize that it's all just self satisfaction, and nobody else really gives a shit...…

    Sorry,.... just a brain fart.....

When I go, i want all my models, built and unbuilt, put into a boat with me and set alight like a Viking funeral. It will have to be a big boat.

they all went into a show cabinet. Last week I bought a new one. And it is allowed to set it into the living room

Me, too, Marc  Had to have one made to fit a certain corner where it would be allowed to go. My wife has to be just about the most indulgent woman I know, and at least she always knows where I am during the day.......in my toyroom. That's what the family call it, and they KNOW it's out of bounds unless I'm there.

In addition, I would say that whatever happens to all my stuff and models when I'm gone isn't going to bother me. Be nice to think my descendants might keep one or two, in memoriam. I had two pals , one died in 2004 and his widow has still not cleared away his room, as far as I know. The other died in 2016 and his daughters chucked all his stuff into black plastic bags and took it to the waste disposal centre. Two extremes, both very sad in their way.

Once I have finished a model I have very little interest in it as I am straight onto the next one.
What I don't sell or give away goes into my cabinet.Every so often I just bin a few to make way for my latest.
When I die I have instructed my wife to donate all my unbuilt kits, paints and tools to the Models For Heroes charity.

I remember an article MM about the heavy injured English servicemen, who were a little bit delighted to built tanks, planes and figures, which were donated from the Military Modelling community.

What will happen is that your name and work will become recognised and deemed collectable, fetch vast amounts of money in auction and make other people very rich. That's what seems to happen when a artist dies :)

    We’re going to die?

Never took that into account in my figure buying policy....

Funny that you posted this on the exact date of my last birthday :) And with each year passing the clock is ticking kind of faster... So I obviously give it a thought occasionally... But then again, I've had (and still have) so many hobbies during my life... I've for example much more "boardgames" than miniatures in my many collections... Not even mentioning my books... my Medals, etc...

IMHO once we go, the material stuff won't have no more importance whatsoever, not for the ones who are gone anyway. I was recently thinking about our former fellow member here, Eddy Vandersteen, who passed away not long ago. He was very good at this, a very talented guy, so I wonder what his family will do with all the stuff he left! Some of his work are definitely worthy of being exposed on some Museum! Well, as for Eddy, I bet to my last cent that he, wherever he is now, won't give a sh*t about that! ;)

    Cheers!

What?...….So nobody has any relatives that are going to really appreciate all the time and dedication that you painstakingly went through and really appreciate what you did?...……..I will answer my own question...…...Who really gives a shit.....It's all about the creative process and the enjoyment we get from self accomplishment. Sorry Martin.....all your stuff makes for a grand pyramid ………...and Antiques Road Show in the year?????????????????

    Wayne,

"What?...….So nobody has any relatives that are going to really appreciate all the time and dedication that you painstakingly went through and really appreciate what you did?...…….."

Guess that in most cases... nope!

"I will answer my own question...…...Who really gives a shit.....It's all about the creative process and the enjoyment we get from self accomplishment."

Believe you did hit the nail on the head... Each one's stuff (passions, hobbies, creative work), it's IMO an individual thing, that only gives pleasure to the creator. For those few who are (or became after they were gone) recognized as "masters", "genius", artists, their creations may be appreciated by others, and eventually exposed in Museums and in some cases worth a lot of money for their heirs, but for the authors... they are no longer here so... once they are gone, they simply don't care!

"Sorry Martin.....all your stuff makes for a grand pyramid ………...and Antiques Road Show in the year?????????????????"

Not 100% sure, but believe he was being ironic/sarcastic replying to a previous post... Or at least that's how I interpreted his post... :)

    Cheers!

I never adhere to my own favorite saying....."Better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt"... I admit I can ruffle some feathers now and then. But wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same?...:)
