It's really useful for small detail work rather than for larger areas. Cutting the upright short of the bolt heads means you can replace used 'palettes' quicly without unscrewing holder.

I made some of these a few years back from an old broom handle, some wood blocks and bolts with wing nuts. The bottom of the handles have been drilled out and slip on to a flat stand with a wooden dowel peg, works a treat, cost me a few pound for the bolts and wing nuts and the other parts were just scrap wood, still using them today 20 years on.

Mind you wooden dowel might be a bit safer than the protruding screws to place the handles on when not in use , don't want to damage precious hands

Blimey some of these look a bit posh.

I'm only painting 54's so I just cut off the length of broom handles and drill holes into the end to suit the pins I put in the figures feet. Most are okay on a standard handle and for the one's which are a bit wide I've added a small piece of timber to make a top like the letter T. A spot of superglue holds them in place till they are ready to swap onto the base.

I think of the hoop as a sign painter uses a mahl stick. one review of a proprietary holder indicated the wire allows the brush to slide. it would seem easy enough to slip a piece of heat shrink tube over it if that became an issue.

Have done a few of those holders, following "megroot"s instructions.








Also did a 30cm X 30cm square on "agglomerate" (wood shavings), for my old "maternity" box (from the days I used to breed some birds) that now will become a "drybox". It has all the required tools, a heating lamp, a ventilator, a temperature regulator, thermostat... It should be ok, I hope.









From the "agglomerate"/wood shavings 120cm X 60cm plate (the thickest I was able to find was not thick enough, 16mm, so I did glue 2 pieces together in order to have one 32mm thick piece; same thing for the 30cm X 30cm plate) I also did a few (still quite a few more to do later) 12cm X 12cm squares, for holding each holder individually while painting (allowing for the use of two hands instead of only one if I had to hold the holder on one hand and paint with the other). Intend to fix with super glue one end of some 5cm pieces of aluminium tube on those 12cm X 12cm squares, and the other end will be on the holes on the bottom of the wood sticks.

Still missing the holes on the bottom of the wood stick. As well as the holes on the 12cm X 12cm wood shavings squares and on the larger 30cm X 30cm plate.

Thanks to all for your ideas, I usually work with figures in 90mm, white metal, and these holders seem to be the best way to handle heavy pieces.
