    Hello fellow Planeteers,

Eddy Vandersteen, aka dArtagnan on this forum, avid figure painter who painted many a box art for amongst others Hawk Miniatures, lost his battle with cancer a mere month short of his 60th birthday. All of us who came in contact with him on this forum or in real life will remember him as a very friendly and helpful person and a skilled painter. Being a fellow Belgian and ex-serviceman living some 10km from myself, the news comes as a shock. Another great painting brush gone forever!

Eddy told me some months ago that his cancer was terminal but the news has still come as a shock-so sad as he was not long retired from the military and was so looking forward to spending more time painting.
The loss of a good friend a superb painter and above all a real gentleman. I have a few of Eddy's pieces in my cabinets and they will be a treasured memory.

    RIP Eddy.

This is terrible news. I met Eddy on a number of occasions at Euro and although I can't claim to have been a close friend, he struck me as a lovely bloke and of course was an extremely talented figure painter.

A sad loss for the figure painting community, but an immeasurable loss to his family. RIP Eddy.

Eddy's work was exceptional and he painted a few of our boxart pieces. Sad loss for the hobby.

Never met Eddy but admired his work and his constant willingness to help us improve our skills. A loss for our hobby but more importantly my deepest thoughts and condolences to Eddy's family and friends. RIP, D'Artagnan

Like Paul I did not have the pleasure of meeting Eddy but was lucky enough to see some of his work in the flesh at recent shows on the Hawk Miniatures stand. A talented artist who will undoubtedly be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

eddy and I started painted figures around the same time, mid 90's and we "grew" together. Never was able to reach his incredible high level. I have many chats t remember Eddy by and on all of them he was always very gentle, friendly and willing to share some tips & tricks. Rita and I will miss you Eddy.

I never met Eddy in person, but we communicated va PM on this Forum, and by email quite often, for about over a year now. I bought most of my American Indian busts yet to be assembled and painted, from him.

I've known, from himself, that he was sick, for quite some time, and we talked about that by mail (as a matter fact the last time I got an email from Eddy was on February 22, after he was sent home from the Hospital, as there was nothing else the Doctors could do for him) but only a couple of days ago did I get an email from his daughter confirming that he passed on February 29.

I'll miss Eddy, because he was a good man, a helpful and friendly person, and a great artist. A great Soul indeed.

    RIP Eddy!

    Cheers!
