Der Tannhauser

Hi friends, starting a new project.
The Tannhauser is a 13th-century German minnesinger, commonly identified with a legendary knight who sought papal absolution after years spent in revelry with Venus. The legend forms the basis of an opera by Wagner
    History
Born into a family of knights of Salzburg, he participated in the sixth crusade of 1228, following the Emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen, along with a crowded company of minstrels and courtly poets, including Freidank and, perhaps, Neidhart von Reuenthal.
Despite the riotiness in abandoning the "joys" savored in the beautiful "land of Puglia", he probably stopped for a long time in the East.

He then made a wandering life as a poet and a singer. He attended the court of Vienna of the Duke of Austria, Frederick II.

    The legend
According to a legend, in his life Tannhäuser finds the Venusberg (mount of Venus), the underground kingdom of Venus, and lives with her for a year. (The legend cave really exists in the Horselberg mountains). He then leaves the goddess full of remorse and embarks on a journey to Rome, to ask forgiveness from Pope Urban IV. The pope reminds him that the sin committed leads to eternal damnation and that forgiveness is possible only in the presence of a miracle: the flowering of his pilgrim's staff. Three days later Tannhäuser returns to Vienna and the pilgrim's staff blooms while the funeral of the beloved woman passes.

The legend was met in the Volkslied and set to music by Richard Wagner in his Tannhäuser.

Being a minnesanger I started working from the musical instrument. For the Tannhauser I chose the Celtic harp.

After looking for inspiration from different images

Interesting. While your at it: why not treat yourself to Georg Solti's 1970 DECCA recording of Tannhaüser with Rene Kollo, Christa Ludwig, Hans Sotin and Helga Dernesch in the lead roles? A glorious performance.

    Cheers

What I have in my mind is a pilgrim Tannhauser so at this time I don't know if helmet and shield will be used or not, everithing is just boiling, like a soup.

I am building the scene, tannhauser has now left the temple of Venus and looks for the last time the symbols of his past, helmet and shield and the harp. A wild boar (out of scale, but all is a legend) represents the old "wild" life of the minnesanger. the helmet has been modified according to the one shown in manesse code (first figure).
Comments and suggestions are very welcommed.

    Hi my friend,
I love your work and the figurative representation of the tannhauser's life. Only I think that columns are too low.. Why don't you break thet and create a temple ruins? it would be understood anyway the meaning
