General Hancock bust

    Hello all.
I wanted to share the first traditional figure (excluding my 2 flats) that I've finished in a very long time. Over 1 1/2 years now!
It's not that I'm not painting, I've just been in a big slump trying to finish something.
This is my version of the APG bust of General Winfield Scott Hancock.
I've tried painting this piece many, many times since I bought it, but with no success. So, I decided to pull it out of my "cubbyhole of shame" once again, clean it up and give it another shot. I managed to get a face that I was satisfied with and kept on painting. My big reason for trying so many times was my idea of how I wanted to have it mounted. Based on the unusual pose, I was immediately reminded of a cameo. I used an oval soapstone soap dish as the background, using the underside of the dish since it gave me a nice framing.
I think it's far from my best work but I am happy enough with the results.
And even happier to have finally finished a piece!
    Thanks for looking,
    Craig

This is an excellent bust by Matt Springer, which I enjoyed painting myself.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to see your version.

    Cheers,

Thanks for letting me know of the problem. I'll see if I can fix it.

That is brilliant. The sculpting and the painting. Where likenesses of actual people sometimes fall short, this one is spot on. Thanks for posting.

Very nicely done Craig, I think you are being very hard on yourself. The face is very well done and I love the way you have framed it, that background colour works well.

Nice job Craig! Remember you from TimeLines and the other figure site prior to Timelines. Recall that you knew of one of my favorite Pittsburgh Pirates from the early 2000's-(2001-2005) Rob Mackowiak.
Glad to see you back painting!

    Thanks Scott and Terry.

Terry of course I remember you too from Timelines. Hard for me to forget that screen name
Being with the Atlanta group, I'd bet you know my friend Dee from that area.
