Today is the painting of the shaggy Caucasian Burka in the turn! So I have to find out another black tone ...:

I used these colors ...



... and the entire coat cape with a thin mixture of black and "English Uniform" painted.

After drying, I have still mixed "Yellow Ocre" and a little "Light Flesh" with this basic color and carefully "dry brushed".

The last step was the dabbing of a very watery broth of pure black - the capillary effect causes the black to flow into the indentations and provides even more optical three-dimensionality!

I am satisfied with the result ...:







On the back you can see the difference between "cold black" of the Abreka fur-cap and the "warm black" of the Burka. The tones are very close together - but distinctly different as desired ...:

First I painted the aluminum pin today and the "invisible side" of my Cossack pure black...:



Then the Kindjal dagger was the turn, without which a Caucasian in that times does not went out of the house.

For this I took a copy of the beautiful Kindjal that Markus has modeled for his fighting Cossack ...



... and which is based on this Caucasian model ...:



Unlike my previous project, where the Kindjal is fully retractable, I decided this time to cut the weapon "on the lower edge", which was done with the microsaw ...:



After cleaning and priming...





...the Kindjal dagger was fixed to the bust with two components adhesive...:



So much for today!

Somehow I had no desire to paint today - to "crafting" but all the more!

So I added a last detail to my Cossack - a gun-fuse cord that was common in the Russian (and Soviet) army...:








This cord - called "Shnur" (шнур) in Russian - prevented the gun from being lost when it fell out of the hand for some reason (eg, in close combat).

With a flower wire I have built this cord of three parts - the wire is easy to bend, holds the forum and is beautifully structured ...:




On the back, which will not visible later, the three parts were combined with two-component adhesive ...:




Then I attached the cord in several passes (first on the neck, then on the chest and finally down) to the figure ...



...and primed it with a brush...:

The pistol-cord is painted, I have hatched the sixth black-tone, which is used on the bust!
It consists of...



Thus, the cord does not dominate the other details and "does not disappear" on the other hand - it is simply there.

All the shades of black are a little different, but they harmonize with each other (I think so), giving the Cossack Bolshevik the desired gloomy / black appearance!

Finally, I painted the handle of the Kindjal dagger, again with "Silver Ink", that I subsequently deposited with very dilute black to work out the engravings ...:



And so my little Cossack is ready!











Tomorrow the base is still decorated - then I am done.

And if the weather plays along and gives me a nice natural light, I'll get a few decent photos ...

I have my "Ready!" from yesterday again briefly layed to the side!

I did not like the guncord at all! Painted the thing looked as if our hero had a layer of barbed wire wrapped around his neck.

So:
Away with the thing and made a new cord - this time from solder tin ...:








Looks much better I think - and what do YOU mean...?

I have just finished painting the pistol cord!

The soldering tin I have with hundreds of patient strokes in ever more different mixtures of these three colors ...

Well - two things are still to be done! And both are "spending money"!
First of all I ordered for my black Bolshevik Cossack a dust cover made of glass, like this one, which belongs to another figure ...:



I do not own a vitrine - every figure or bust has its own hood. So I'm not dependent on a place.

For the second thing, a little "Astronomy" is necessary!
Originally I had planned to decorate the beautiful pedestal that my friend Klaus has made for me with a Red Army cockade from the second world war ...:



But the longer I thought about it, the less I liked this idea!

Because star is not like star!

The hammer-and-sickle symbol shown on the selected cockade was not introduced until 1923, the star in the form shown until the mid-1930s.
The thing changed quite often its appearance - to the end of the Soviet Union it came somewhat brighter and - above all! - essentially "more pointed" therefore!

I represent my Cossack in 1920 - and the Soviet cockade still bore the original symbol of a hammer (which symbolized the working class) and a plow (for the peasantry) ...:



Also, the form was again different!

Here times all three mentioned models in comparison:
On the left, at the beginning of the Civil War, in the middle of the Second World War, and on the far right, the cockade of the Red Army as it was worn until the fall of the USSR in 1990 ...:



Stupid for me:
The middle and the right star I have in my fundus, the left version not!
So I bought such a star from a dealer for militaria in Russia today!




An original of course, because a replica (which are mostly madeed in China and sold by dealers in the US) does not come into my house!

(Hrrrmmmpppff - quite pedantic, isn't it?)

Let's see how long the Russian Post and the German Customs will need this time.

Until then, my Bolsheviks comes in the locker for the first time in a dust-proof manner - but you will see the finished result of course!
