Thought i'd share my latest project it's a conversion of the naked army SASR Bust Vietnam, i resculpted the right arm added M16 with 203 ,sculpted the hands and gloves , as well as added a bush hat as well as sculpted the 203 pouches using ospreys Vietnam Anzac colour plate F2 as inspiration .
I'm going to do a tiger stripe uniform pattern for something a little different to the EDRL that the aussies normally wore during the war.
Just about to undercoat now and hope to begin this one in the next coiple of days
    Cheers

After playing around we ith the face cam yesterday i've cleaned up the face again and began the hat. A few hours a playing around with the tiger stripe on the bush hat , the basic pattern is complete now to refine it and then some shadowing, then i'll wash it down to fade it slightly, all comments and criticisms welcome.

    Afternoon all,
I've spent the morning building up the base colour green for the tiger stripe . I've used a combination of JoSonja olive green, moss green and basic flesh tone mixed with JoSonja texture paste as i find in this scale it dulls down the colour and gives a more realistic cloth look, i've used a base of all the above colours to try and achieve some subtle highlights as well as shadow before beginning the cam

    Al,

    This is looking good.

As an aside, I never saw a tiger stripe hat during my tour, but a couple of our lads wore the tiger stripe beret on occasion. The tiger stripe suit wasn't popular, and IIRC only one fellow wore it for a short period. The problem was they were a slim fit, and not as good or as comfortable as the US camouflage uniform, which was on issue to us and universally worn in our squadron (3 SAS Squadron 1969-70).

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

    Cheers

Thanks Chris for your help on the hat, , did the boys wear the issue bush hat ( green ) as a matter of interest ?
The tiger stripe beret ! Is that the same as the colour plate in Ospreys Vietnam Anzacs ?
If so i will sculpt a beret for this figure, i did only see a couple of tiger stripe uniforms ( worn by Aussie SAS ) in my photo searches and the gents wearing them were indeed built like greyhounds . I did do the original SAS bust with EDRL so this is for something different as well
Once again thankyou for your help and kind comments
    Cheers

    Al,

In my experience we wore either the Australian bush hat, or a sweat rag tied around the head, and dropping to the rear. The tiger stripe beret was the same pattern as the tiger suit - yellow, green and black were the predominant colours I recall. It was smaller than the unit beret and tended not to drop down one side very much. More of squat thing like the cloth berets the Australian commandos wore in New Guinea during World War Two.

    Cheers

Thankyou Chris for that info, i'll redo the bush hat back to green. The other figure i did had the sweat rag around the head, plus i need to get more putty if i were to do the beret

Excellent progress Al. You've clearly got the juices flowing mate. First steps on the Tiger Stripe cams look very good. Seeing your efforts on this bust have caused me to pull my standard version out of the cabinet and finish it (finally).
