    Hello,

I have finished my next project. It is the wunderfull 120 mm horsed Dutch Red Lancer, sculpted by master Carl Reid and produced by Gordon Mitchell.

    I hope you like it.

    Very tasty.
There looks to be a lot of weight for just the one leg to support. How do you get round that?

Oh wow, great to see this done, as I've got it in the very small grey army stash. This looks fantastic, great work!

Lovely work Ben, love the sense of motion the piece has and the weight distribution of the rider as he rides the turn. Beautiful sculpting and painting.

First I've seen painted. You've done a cracking job on this.
Good call with the round plinth, plenty viewing options for one of Carl's most dramatic pieces.

The lancer is perfectly painted but...... the muddy ground on this one is awesome. Am i right if i suppose you used the splashing mud to support the second leg of the horse?
    Congratulations to this stunning figure!

Fantastic paintwork on this Ben. The mud splattered effect enhances the movement of the horse. Like Nap I would like to know how you achieved this.
    Great stuff!

    Cracking job Ben!
This is the first I've seen painted. Fantastic!

For those who are wondering about the support on one leg...
I sculpted/engineered the horse so a brass rod can be cast into the leg.
The rod passes all the way down the leg from inside the chest, and passes out through the hoof. Which is used to pin the piece to the base.

This is a recognised method when sculpting dynamic pieces of this nature. I've done it many times over the years and never heard of any breakages.

If all the excess weight is removed from the body of the horse, and bulk the weight over the supporting leg, along with the rod it will never break.
    Under normal transporting conditions.

    Hello,

    thanks for kindly comments.

The mud is maked from still water (Vallejo) and cotton wool. After drying, painted dark brown colors and varnished with gloss varnish.

About the pin of the horse, there is no problem. It is strong enough. What Carl said, under normal transport.

The splash is only for decoration and not to firming the hose leg.

Now preparing the duo of the Waterloo clash...
