Completed Critique Roman imaginifer - Young Models - Finished

    Hi All,

Finally finished something again....this is Young's Roman Imaginifer bust.

Started naively as a quick job to see if perhaps I liked busts after all.
Got stuck in several challenges, the face being one of them as already mentioned in my WIP thread, and once again it took longer to finish than I had expected. To cut a long story short: I do not really like busts and I am glad this one is done.

One thing that took some additional time was to create a replacement imago (the thing he is holding). I didn't like the original part: it was some fantasy face depiction and looked very solid and heavy, like a solid block of marble, which I think is not very accurate. It is supposed to be the image of an emperor or other leader and made of beaten and polished metal.
I used a spare head of the 54mm roman civilian figure from Soldiers SGF and sculpted the shoulders and the dome shape (MagicSculpt over a plasticine form). To add some interest, I added ray-like details with lead foil.
I painted it with a new technique (for me), using gold wax over Scale75 acrylic metallics. After some buffing this gives a high gloss shine which I think is appropriate for this polished brass or gold-plated thing. The wax is a really nice product (I used one from AK Interactive), but one has to be careful not to 'leak' metal pigments on the surrounding areas of the figure. If this happens I have had some success removing them with BlueTac by the way.

Right. Enough text. Here are some pictures.
Now back to full figures again....! :)

    Cheers,
    Adrian

(Have to admit I recently bought another bust that I really really really liked. You know, as a quick weekend job.... )

    Adrian,
And you don't like busts, well, you have done a very good job of not liking it. Excellent tone and the flesh looks superb.
    The wolf fur, well smashing.

Lovely job. I really like what you've done with the emperor image too. I think it looks much better than the kit-supplied part and as you say, is probably more accurate.

I've had this one on the "Shelf of Shame" for over a year, although it's about 95% done now and edging towards the finish line. Seeing this might just prompt me to finish it off. I'm sticking with the imago as supplied though - too late to change it now.
