    Good evening !

I have just finished this samurai. Sculpt is Pegaso. Scale is 90 mm.
    All done with acrylics.
A few modifications done on the kit. Hands were drilled and cast naginata was removed then replaced by a plain steel one which was then painted completely without any sculpted details except the ball at the end. Naginata was also reversed and animation of the samurai looks much better now.
Flag was drilled and brass pin inserted.
Since the attachment of the flag at the back was flimsy, I have added another attach ment. It is not historically correct but it is much stronger this way.
Base is American Walnut and was also done by me. A brass threaded insert is in there for transport.
Please note that the original base of the kit is also hidden there and it was screwed to the wood base.

I would like to show my work on Putty And Paint so if anyone has an invitation code and wants to give it to me, please let me know.

Feel free to critic my word and let me know what you think of it.

    Cheers

    Alex

And a picture of the setup for the photo shoot.
Pictures were taken with 1'',F13,Iso 200, WB5000K without any flash or direct lights (only the ceiling lights). The black lights in the picture are only used during airbrushing.

    Stunningly amazing work Alex!
Must have been a true labour of love. All that freehand... What dedication!
    Pleasing color combinations as well.

Will surely be a focal point in your display cabinet!

It was explained to me that not many people have invitations to P&P to hand out by the way. Anyway, I got in after asking for it at PF, so hope this will work for you as well.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Brilliant work there, one of the best painted Samurai's that I have ever seen on this forum. If you are on FaceBook just like the Paint & Putty page and when accepted you can post your photos anytime.

Adrian, Giorgio, Pete, Andy, Ulrich & Marc, thank you for the kind words.
Dear Ulrich : as you know, those 90 mm samurais can be so difficult to assemble and paint sometimes, but at the same time so rewarding when completed. Keep doing it ! They are so well worth it in the end. I have the same one you are doing right now in my grey army. But will do some 54 or 75 mm figures first !

    Cheers,

    Alex

Oh and by the way, I have represented the mail as it was lacquered black. Many collectors of japanese armour have confirmed me that including a japanese museum director. I think that it was done like that in order to protect the rest of the arms and thigh protectors from the inevitable rust of plain iron/steel mail rings.

    Cheers

    Alex,
I have to agree that this is one of the best painted samurai I have ever seen. Especially this figure as I am not a big fan of the really dark style which is what I have mostly seen done on this figure. You have the right amount of color to bring out all the details but in very subdued tones.
I would love to see this in person.

Where to start? The free hand? The blending? The skintones? It's all fantastic, that's all I can say.
