Just upgraded my iMac to EL Capitan. NOT A GOOD MOVE
Totally messed up all my photo albums , lost 12 years of pictures which apple finally managed to restore but all in the main menu i.e. photos ,painstakingly sorting into new albums but every time I add a new photo it duplicates in the main menu if I delete the duplicate it vanishes from the album also.

Some things are better jus left alone , google translate no longer works also ; many other easy to use things now are way overcomplicated .

I will now rename this as a Downgrade ,and off course this all fills iCloud rapidly so they can charge you for more storage space . Messed up Safari front page also .

And I can no longer upload pictures to PF

After a similar experience 'upgrading' my iPad I've come to appreciate Microsoft more....it gives you more control and let's you create your own problems.... :)

Can't you downgrade again Ron? I think this is possible for a short while after each upgrade.

That has passed my mind Adrian , this all came about due to an Ipad issue in the first place .
I think Apple wants to control the world .
Some great inventions reach a point where they can't be improved , you got to realise when they have topped out:) Fender Stratocaster is a fine example:)

I think you're right Ron sometimes it's worth sticking with what works for you and meets your needs. Youngest son was planning to upgade his Mac as his business builds up. After discussion with Apple 'genius' the guy looked at his business projection and recommended a model that saved him over a £Grand.

Missed your annual Wisteria photo this year and was beginning to worry that you would miss your bi-monthly reference to a Strat. Isn't about time for a mention of Pink Floyd:p ........dammit I've just done it

I feel the same way about Tama drums and Zildjian cymbals as you do about Fender Strats.

"I think Apple wants to control the world."

Don't kid yourself, all large multinationals want to control the world. All. Maybe not so much control as guide it to the benefit of the corporate state. And they'll likely succeed unless civilization itself unravels first.

    And on that cheery note...

    All the best,
    Dan

Thank you for the heads up Ron. Just checked my photos after an El Capitan upgrade and I have the same problem. Getting it sorted now.

Del makes a valid point - just how far can you improve a system that is already working very well? Are we satisfying the tech heads who like developing programs, or the user? How much value do the upgrades really provide over what we had before? I will stick with Apple, however, as Microsoft IMHO has a worse record and have sold us some really dud software in the past. Having used both systems at work and home I am far happier with Apple products.

    Thanks again

    Cheers

I feel the same about windows 10. Too late now to do anything about it. Development is about the tech industry selling us things we don't really need. However in BBC business news yesterday morning they interviewed a young lady whose company is developing an app that links to your camera phone. The idea is that you point your phone at an object and a description of it appears on the screen. We walk a lot and often look at wild flowers and wonder what they are....sort of daft thing you do in your dotage!!. Seemed like a useful idea to me.

Yeah my own went bonkers this year, there was so much weight on the fences around the raised deck I had to chop 1/3 of it away, hopefully it should survive. I'm going to need to remove as much again as soon as it sheds it's leaves in the Autumn.

I have no idea about gardening or plants but by God you've taught me what a Wisteria is!!

On the subject of upgrades always make a backup first and test thoroughy once you've upgraded so you can downgrade if you wish.

I also agree with Dan that large corporations want to rule the World. I like to think that we'll rebel before then.

    Enough ranting for now!!

Isn't that what trees are for? My feeble attempts at gardening resulted in a garden that resembles a place that had been subjec to a scorched earth policy...

This new version el capitan is a real dog esp photo which replaces iphoto , whatever happened to drag and drop , Having to go through 5.500 pictures and sort them into albums again , this is gonna take a while

I agree. Windows 10 upgrade destroyed my older computer by loosing an "internet protocal." The upgrade is now downloading without permission on several computer friends computers.???? I guess permission and computers doing what YOU want is a thing of the past.
The " Best Buy" geeks could not get it back and I had to buy a new computer if I wanted the internet. :wacky: I bought one but NOT from best buy:eek: Down side was all computers come with Windows 10. Now on every start up I have to use the No. Lock so I can get Numbers:cry: Why would I want all the squiggly thingies on start up instead of No.s?
Well at least I can now post:D

Windows 10 started an automatic download on my laptop the other day... If I hadn't heard others complaining about 10 I probably would've let it. Instead I forced a shutdown, let it sit for a day, restarted it and said "No" when asked if I wanted to resume the download. I think I dodged a bullet with this one.

First time I paid attention to other people complaining and it worked out. Usually I ignore people when they bitch... Perhaps I may start listening with at least half an ear.

Not too old to learn the odd lesson here and there

All upgrades Colin are not for the best, I have seen companies 70 years established ruined by young whizz kids straight out of university who have no knowledge of the shop floor , and an architect who said the brick bond worked on his computer and couldn't understand why it didn't work in practise .
The tit had added two extra perpends ; one at the beginning of the wall and one at the end so he was twenty mm out :p not a huge sin in a long run of walling but in a 3 brick pier it is a disaster  All he could say was it works on his computer
