After one and a half year completely away from brushes, I picked up my brushes again.
Here's my latest creation, a bust from Scale75, sculpted & painted by me. hope you like him.

To tell the truth I was really disgusted with my painting 18 moths ago. Really.
So I decided to take a long break, completely away from brushes, and I've been focused on sculpting while I'm away.

I read a book about the fine art method which is called "Learn painting without paintbrushes", a Japanese art book which teaches the theory of learning curve difference between artwork and sports. Art learning curve is not as same as sports, practicing over and over every day does not always bring you a good result.
It tells that if you want to paint a good fish, you'd better go fishing and slice it, learn anatomy of the fish, and then watch fish in aquarium. Then go back to the canvas you will find you are better at painting fish.

So I stopped painting, learn sculpting and anatomy.
It helped me refresh to back to my brush again.

Answer #1) My real name is Kazufumi Tomori, but I prefer to use my shorted name Kaz Tomori, which is easier to pronounce and remember.
Answer #2) I mixed field grey from Carbon Black, Warm White, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow. I changed the mixing ratio and lastly I stippling small dots over highlight area.

Amazing result! The helmet decals were usually painted over - especially the decal with the national emblem was completely removed earlier due to high visibility. I understand that it gives the artist a chance to add som color and interest to the helmet.
Congratulations to this outstanding bust - as a sculptor and painter!

Yes you're right, decals are usually hidden, painted over.... but as you said, I want 'colours' as an eye catch.

Thanks a lot, Jason. I tried stippling technique which Jason Zhou and Krill Kaneav are doing recently. It's very time consuming technique, but I think it brings a good result.
