Having got 2 pieces on the go I managed to drop back to this one,i have now started to paint all the belts, straps and shoulder wings,i always paint this in 2 stages because I tend to lose some of the contrast when painting white in one sitting,so a further session will be required before finishing, these will also have some slight weathering one complete.
The musket is all but finished apart from the strap, which I have base coated before finishing with the oils.
The rest of the tunic has been undercoated in acrylic red and will be finished with oils to a faded look also with some weathering.
This isn't a piece to be rushed, but I should be somewhere near complete in a couple of weeks time.

A really innovative use of a bust--maybe the first time I've ever seen this use. Admirable in construction and composition.

Looking abolsutely superb Brian and your SBS is very informative. It's a pleasure to see how an expert does things.

Would you mind sharing your palette bot h for underpainting and overpainting? I'm doing my first busts at the moment and am eager to make them look at least half decent.

    Cheers

    Hi Brian
I use vallejo acrylics , I normally Start at the highest point and work into the figure. So on above I would first do belt plate, then shoulder belts, then lace & braiding ,working down to the tunic etc.
Next figure I do may try dong tunic first then work my way out
