Thank you gentleman, hope you all had a good Xmas... I'm just glad it's over. Twenty of my wife's family packed into my house for dinner yesterday is quite enough thank you.

After today's shift at work I'm off until Jan 4 so I plan to get this one finished this week... now that the chaos is done.

Thank you BP for the references... gave some light to a couple of questions I still had. Over all I'm running with the reference I included at the top... with a couple of tweaks here and there.

Hey all, hope 2016 is off to a roaring start!
My prediction of finishing this by the 4th was a flop Just couldn't seem to get my shit together... but I have made some progress.

First, I did the dreaded whites... The waistcoat and turnbacks are a cool white with grey undertones, the breaches are done in a warmer white based of a beige and the stockings are a cool white with vertical lines to try to give the impression of the knit pattern.

Then the red sash of an NCO... tried to keep a strong, dark red.

Finally, the black on the lapels, collar, cuffs and felt cap front. The base of the black is a dark grey (Scale 75 Petroleum Grey) with a touch of Walnut. Highs were brought up by adding Graphite to the base and shading by adding black to the base... pure black was washed around the buttons and lace.

Speaking of the lace... I am planning on doing the lace in white and the fringed shoulder straps in silver. Does anyone have any insight on these items before I get dug in to deep with them??? Please?????
I have some touching up to do on the green. I got a little sloppy with the white on the turnbacks.
The pics are a little dark but it was the only way not to have the whites wash out completely.

Dear Colin, really like what you've done so far. Well done. Personally I have paused mine as I felt I was rushing it a bit.

To answer your question, I was going to do the shoulder tassells / epaulettes in a light grey colour possibly with a little silver fleck in it.. That's how I've interpreted those old pictures anyway. That's how they're portrayed in the only picture I could find with them included.

If you want to come back to the good side, W&N made an iridescent white. It's a warm white with a very subtle silver fleck to it. I've never use it so not sure how it would look when actually applied.

Liking the way this is shaping up (I also dread the white turnbacks, especially on a dark jacket) You've made a fine job of 'em

I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who needs to touch things up (If you see what I mean)

This piece is going very well. I like what you did.
I have the same piece on my workbench and just finished the composition.
I looked through the references that I found:
For the epaulettes I thinks that is safe to go as you decided. Look what I found:



The front of the cap is black leather and the rest is black felt.



Looking close, I noticed that the figure has side curls, one each side, which implies that he is wearing a wig. I'm not sure about this. I need to look around more to find out what the regulations are saying. Maybe you are more familiar with this issue.
If I'm getting more info I'll let you know.

Seems I have the hat bass ackwards... I did a leather crown and felt front. Not a huge problem to repair though.

Curious to see your composition... better not have him peeking around a tree! I already started my tree....

Zeno, some excellent information there mate - thanks a lot. I have the picture in the Blandford book of course, but those actos/re-enactors look great and are very informative, especially bout the cap.
