Continuing with more subjects from the Swedish Russian war 1808-1809, and another from the
epic poems "The Tales Of Ensign Stål" by the Finland-Swedish author Johan Ludvig Runeberg, the national poet of Finland.
This time I want to depict Lieutenant-Colonel J Z Duncker during the Battle Of Hörnefors 1809. Duncker commanded the Swedish rearguard and received fatal wounds and died in the Russian encampment the day after. He was immortalized by Runeberg as "..The bravest soldier of them all." in the poem 5th of July.

Sculped using Magic sculp. Heads and hands from the hornet range. The Savolax Sabre is an slighly modified Historex item.

Looking great, nice pose. A very much neglected area of the Napoleonic period.

    Fantastic!!!
Love the dynamic pose... tons of character. Great to see your pieces covering rarely depicted subjects.

Can't wait to see some colour on this guy... blue and yellow?

Thank you my friends. I'm glad you like it. I've tried to catch some of his rather stubborn and pride character and using Hornet heads really helps since they're loaded with expression. And yes this is a neglected area but I really like it, I find it really inspiring and I already have a couple ideas in the pipe.

Colin: The swedish uniform during this conflict was really rather boring compared to other nations. Grey, grey and more grey. The Savolax rangers did however sport diffrent hats and also had green cuffs and facings. So this will be an practise in grey, rather challenging color to paint I think.

Nice start Lars. Grey is a challenging colour to work with indeed. I've found a couple of grey swedes in my small library... Sharp looking uniforms!
As usual I'll be following your project with great interest!

Great figure and interesting subject! I, too, have been planning to do something from this neglected war. Sven Tuuva, Döbeln etc. But being too lazy, I´m happy to see your work ;)

It's a interesting period with so many changes in uniform regulations, some of them never reached the units in the field. It seems like most units actually went to war in old and torn uniforms. (an uniform was supposed to last in 12 years) and got the new grey ones in the last months of the war. However in the theory they indeed looked sharp, going to war in high hats and tailcoat.

Thanks Pekka. There are many interesting characters from this conflict, I have started a couple projects; Lotta Svärd and a little vignette with Wilhelm Von Schwerin. ;)
It would like to see you do Von Döbeln in 1:16, that would be a nice little weekend project wouldn't it?

    Regards Lars

    Now finished.
Quite happy how the greys turned out. I think I bought every grey in the valljo range, but in the end I used London Grey, light grey and lots of different brown.
    Cheers
