Well, I guess you have all been wondering where I have been lately as I haven't posted much recently. What you're probably thinking is "Jazz? Who the hell is Jazz?"

What I have been doing lately (besides working quite hard for an old retired man) is this: An Edwardian scene that shows the changing of the times from the old Hansom cab to the new fangled Ford model T, circa 1908.

The scene has evolved considerably from what I first had in mind, a simple Autumn scene outside a London park.

Here are the work in progress shots. All I have to do now is finish off the base and get the nameplate.

All in all there are 8 figures displayed here. Some of them are Phoenix as is the Hansom cab. The Model T is a heavily improvised Airfix, the guy in the bowler hat is a Hornet figure of Bat Masterson minus his badge. The small boys are both from Andrea and the groundwork and fencing is all from Historex. I've tried to give the scene an Autumn look as its the most colourful season in my opinion. The base is handmade from skirting wood purchased from my local Wicks. All the figures are painted in oils over acrylics and the groundwork is acrylics. I have tried to show that the little boys are interested in the new car whilst the little girl still shows the horse more interest. The policeman is obviously looking at a problem of obstruction of the street. (Being an ex cop I saw plenty of this in my time)

I hope you all like it. Its given me a lot of pleasure these last few weeks. I look forward to hearing any comments.

Jazz: So different from what we usually see on PF. And
that I find so refreshing. This piece is loaded with "eye
candy". Very well done, my friend. I'll be eager to chat
with you about it when you get back home,

I think it's fantastic John. Really well done. And a nice genteel civilian scene makes a refreshing change from all the warriors and death-dealers!

Very nice composition. love those old Phoenix kits. I have 9 or 10 of the girls in the cellar somewhere. My best is a night dio with the mounted Highwayman accosting a Brougham coach and a lady and gentleman. I must take some pis and post. I used the Italeri ruined church as a backdrop..

Yes, the old phoenix kits were great. I was very lucky to get these pieces over 20 years ago. I also have a couple of the Phoenix follies. Such a shame that they are so hard to get hold of these days.

What a beautiful and well conceived diorama!
Not as hard as all that. Many of the Phoenix ranges can be found at:-

I can't comment on quality or service however, as I've never had occasion to use the website.

Thanks for the link Arj. I saw this site a few years ago and it appears that they have made more kits available since I last saw it. I've bookmarked the site for future reference. Cheers mate.

Beautiful work John, all the elegance of a bygone age. I don't know why bot it reminds me of an old Ealing Comedy :):):).

Very creative concept and well-executed. It's compact and it tells a story. I think I might turn the couple to be gazing at the scene rather than appearing oblivious to it by looking 'off base', but that's me. I didn't see him, my eyes aren't the best, but where's the Model T driver?

    Impressive.

Ha ha. As a lover of the old Ealing comedies myself I take that as a compliment Gary.

The driver of the Model T is meant to be the man with the bowler hat standing next to it. I also take on board what you say about the other two figures. I may be able to turn them but everything is pinned on one foot. If not it may just mean they are too posh to give the car the time of day.
