This is the re-issued bust from Lamb and Flag miniatures. It is resin with metal parts. I don't think the hat fits as well as the original Poste Militiare casting, but close enough. This is my second attempt at painting Rainy Mountain Charlie, and both times it has been a real pleasure. This and the other busts in the series sculpted by Julian Lamb are really good.
I painted this bust with oils for the face and acrylics for the clothes and hat. I tried to do justice to the face as that of an old Indian, weathered and leathery from too many days in the sun, full of wrinkles.
I used the Bronze Native American formulas in William F. Powell's book for the flesh mixture. I think it came out pretty decent.
Thanks for looking. Rainy Mountain Charlie.jpg

I think your flesh is absolutely spot-on.
Also love the finish that you've achieved on the denim shirt.

    Cheers,

I'd say that has joined a long list of well painted Rainy Mountain Charlie's. Very nicely done.

Nice Pete! I really like the flesh tones here! My only critique is I would encourage you to do more with the blanket, but that's just my opinion. Overall, turned out great.

Great job Pete (y) Makes me tempted to get my PM version out of the drawer. Thanks for letting us know about the flesh mix. Would you share your mix for the denim shirt?

    Hi Gary,
I pulled one of the wife's denim shirts out of her closet and set it down next to the workbench. I used all Vallejo acrylics, using sky blue with a touch of grey as a base, then adding white for highlights or 1st shadow blue from the blue set to darken. Painting the orange stitching was the hard part.

Great job! I'm new to all of this, haven't painted a figure since the '70's. Was curious in which of William F. Powell's books, he has many, that you found the Bronze Native American formula? My RMC is on it's way and I love the treatment that you've given yours. Thanks!!!

Hi Richard, Welcome back to figure painting. The book is Color Mixing Recipes for Portraits. But he has his skin tones in other color mixing books as well. You are sure going to enjoy painting RMC.
