I have always had a passion for horses, real or model, so I hit on the idea of doing a series of the more difficult colours/coats.
Biggest problem is finding a decent sculpt in the 90 mm scale that I prefer!
This one is the Poste Militaire (Bonapartes) Bare Horse, with the added bonus being that the mane, tail and forelock, are cast separately.
I chose to depict a 'Dappled Dun' coat for this one, as it has so many subtle colours/shades/hues in it's make up.
As is my norm of late, I airbrushed everything apart from the finest details, such as hooves/eyes/mouth and veins etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed this piece and the search is on for a suitable sculpt for the next one.

As usual! Very eye catching work! Very, Very subtle and smooth tones, with a 90mm piece. Your AB, Work is getting better and better. Nicely displayed.

Hi Ron T...yes...it was a real challenge to get the subtleties of the coat...even with the airbrush :nailbiting:.....strangely enough...Strawberry Roan was what I was planning for the next piece

Like the idea of using Historex pieces for planning out colours....nice one mate (y)

Hello Del...the dappling was the hardest part by far to get a convincing tone....and the spacing/layout was even harder...learnt a lot doing it though :)

Ron T....I used 3 of the Scale 75 paint sets...Wood and Leather...Black and White....Flesh set...it's very difficult to give a distinct colour application guide...as a lot of the 'mixing' takes place on the surface as you apply each colour...
I used a base of 'Iroko'....followed by 'Walnut for the pre-shading....after that...it was all done using photos for reference while I worked...
What I can tell you is....there are 11 shades/tones overall....with 4 being the dapples alone!
Not sure if that helps mate...give me a shout if you need more info (y)
