    Hi to all ,

Perhaps one of the most impressive characters in the german war machine of WW1 was Hindenburg , a big and powerful man both as a leader and as a person in his own right.

He was born on Oct 2nd in 1847 at Poznan in Poland , and died in 1934 on Aug 2nd also in Poland being finally buried (reinterred) at Marburg in Germany in 1946 . Real name Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von HindenburgA big man at 1.96 he served as the german president from 1925-34 ( handing over leadership to Hitler primarly due to senility)

Oversaw the Spring offensive in 1918 and was almost tried as a war criminal but was never indited due to his popularity.

Here are a list of some of his awards:

    Order of the Black Eagle
Grand Cross of the Order of the Red Eagle with Oakleaves and Swords on Ring
Grand Cross of the Iron Cross on Star
Grand Cross of the Iron Cross
    Iron Cross 1st kl. 1914
    Iron Cross II kl. 1870
Order of the Red Eagle 4th kl. with swords
Saxon Order of St. Heinrich, Grand Cross and Kmndr 1st kl.
Bavarian Order of Max-Joseph, Grand Cross
Wurttemburg Order of Military Merit, Grand Cross
Baden Military Order of Karl Friedrich, Grand Cross
Austrian Military Maria Theresa Order, Grand Cross
Austrian Military Merit Cross, 1st and 3rd classes
Austrian Large Golden Military Merit Medal
Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty, Grand Cross with swords
Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece

On now to the box and its contents:

What are we looking at :

Title: Paul von Hindenburg (Circa 1916-17)

    Reference: LM-B015

    Scale: 1/9th

    Material: Gray Resin

    No of pieces: 5

    Sculpted: Sang-Eon Lee

    Box Art: Sang- Eon Lee

    SPECIAL THANKS to Dave Youngquist

The first thing that strikes me is of course the box art ..totally amazing , this is in glorious colour on the top with some excellent renditions of the awards shown on the bust for reference on one of the sides ..great start .
    LM von H 001.jpg
As always with Life Miniatures we are treated to a high quality packaging in a satin black box the contents were held between foam so no worry about damage.

Pieces consist of the torso , a head , the helmet , the helmet spike ( held in a small clear bag) and a pedastal base.
    LM von H 002.jpg
Prep , this was always going to be minimal and this continues with this release , a plug to remove from the torso underside , one from the underside of the neck , the helmet spike ...a simple cut with a sharp knife deals with that one , the helmet will need care to ensure the one under the helmet rim does not damage the piece....but slowly and carefully will repay the time with dividends.

As with LM in previous reviews ..the resin surfaces are as smooth as silk , I am amazed at the quality here..some manufacturers should take note of LM quality.

Starting with the Torso , wearing the overcoat this is a wonderful piece of work , hanging very naturally loose to expose the uniform underneath, good definition on the button holes edging as well .

I like the way the material has been done great folds , soft and very expressive , on his shoulders we see the twisted epaulettes of his rank with the crossed batons of a GFM , work on the twists are spot on with the batons sitting proud as they should (looking forward to painting these!!!)

    LM von H 007.jpg LM von H 006.jpg LM von H 005.jpg LM von H 003.jpg LM von H 008.jpg
    LM von H 009.jpg
    LM von H 004.jpg

The uniform underneath is a dream to look at everywhere I looked I see QUALITY , from the fall of the sah , its sit across the body the soft and natural folds in it , great stuff .

The awards and medals ( I am in heaven here!!!) are nothing short of OUTSTANDING, they are reakky very well researched resulting in even better represented on the bust itself , edges are very sharp.
    LM von H 010.jpg LM von H 011.jpg LM von H 012.jpg LM von H 013.jpg
I particularly liked the neck orders ...just look at the pictures ..they all show the incredible details .

There is only one button showing dues to the sash position but the detail on this is great as well with the Imperial crown

The collar insignia is another treat just look at the pictures ...amazing sharpness both in sculpting and casting.

Onto the Head , this could be no-one else but Hindenburg the likeness is really good m from the double chin , the jowls his eyes , the bags underneath them and of course the moustache itself ..brilliant stuff.

We see good definition in the eyes and mouth area with the ears themselves being a pleasure to look at , well worked and the shape is good .

    LM von H 017.jpg LM von H 016.jpg LM von H 014.jpg
    LM von H 015.jpg
    LM von H 018.jpg

Now to the Helmet and Spike , the spike is finely sculpted and with a point!!! ( Ouch) , fit into the helmet itself is clen and easy , when in place it looks great . LM von H 026.jpg

The helmet fits onto the head like a dream , no filler needed here , , its a great shape as the original , with wonderful details , from the supporting pieces running towards the back to the edging on the helmet peak but the most imposing bit is of course the Prussian Eagle with Guard Star , its just crying out for paint !!!, the chin chain is held up sitting nicely on the top of the peak .

    LM von H 021.jpg LM von H 024.jpg LM von H 023.jpg LM von H 019.jpg LM von H 022.jpg LM von H 020.jpg

The Base is the standard Pedastal type as seen in the picture , perfectly suitable , no blemishes , and a good fit if you choose to use it.

    Final Thoughts

The sculpting and quality and presentation is Ist CLASS in every respect as you can see from the pictures ...all I can do is give thanks for the skill of Sang-Eon,this is a gem of a subject and I hope we will see others from the period ..possibly Haig or maybe the Crown Prince .

If this is your period and you like medals get it ..if not get it anyway!!! ...a fine display piece in the cabinet .

Thanks to Life Miniatures for the Review model and I look forward to sharing more from them with you dear reader .

Thnaks to you all for looking in , hope you enjoyed the visit

A lot was said on its release. From the Box Art being so good it could prevent people buying it as they could never match it. To the possibility that this is the highest quality bust produced to date. Well, it is possible seeing this review that the latter may be true, it does look stunning. As for the box art, well, I could never match any box art so I am in the happy position that it doesn't bother me.

It's a hobby not a competition, if this is your thing then go get it and share it when it is painted as your version, not someone else's.

    Great review again Nap.

I had to have this one,and i've just about finished painting him.The easiest part was painting the face as the sculptor did such a good job.One of my favourite busts ever, and i wasn't too keen on the period to begin with.

    Hello Nap,
Thank you for another great review of such an impressive bust!
I totally agree with Graham, Box art exists to work as a temptation and a guide, but the think is to
have fun with your own painting skills and have another gem in your collection!
Brian i am anxiously waiting to see your version as your skills are unique and always an inspirations for me
as with many other members work.
Thanks again Nap for your time in this detailed review!

Having just finished this bust recently, I can only echo what has already been said here. This is one of the finest busts I have ever had the pleasure to paint. The face is outstanding and I'd recommend it to anyone, even If WWI isn't your favourite period.
