    Hello Planet!

Hot on the heels of our very successful seminar with Fernando Ruiz here in Toronto, I've managed to make some more progress on the figure using a modified version of the technique he demonstrated. It certainly took some fear out of painting blacks...

Looks great Alex but the shading on your thumb leaves a lot to be desired.

That is looking very nicely. Convincingly black.

That Fernando is really spreading the painting gospel! I also enjoyed one of his workshops. A great experience.
I see he learned to paint your thumb too, but hope you didn't pick up the sucking of brushes....

    Cheers

Ah Adrian, the problem is..I already painted my thumb, and sucked the brush...The retarder really changes the flavour of the paint!

i found the retarder a tad too soapy and akaline for my tastebuds ...

Great progress Alex. Excellent looking blacks and the face turned out well also.
Fernando put on a great seminar... not only informative but a laugh riot as well! The man is a fabulous painter and an absolutely twisted bugger... great weekend! !!

    Hi Alex
Good start on a tricky figure, To avoid "Blue thumb disease" Wrap a piece of kitchen roll over the thumb, hold in place with a rubber band and hey presto, no more "Blue thumb!"

The base colour is a little bit of Scale75 flat black, added to Scale75 Caspian Blue, and Brown Leather. The highlights are mixed in with a little Scale75 Pale Skin. It gives it a cooler blue tone to the black, which was really out of my comfort zone, but I kept going with the mix from the seminar.

Looks great so far, think that blue black really adds interest to the figure.
