He is using a brush moist with humborol thinner to position /shape/sculpt the medium. solvent base dosent seem to thin out the acyrlic medium in order to shape the vein or the hair

I should have written 'he hasn't replied to my post on the 3 Pied site yet'. Maybe he missed it.

But I would certainly refrain myself from concluding that a person is unwilling to share information.

As a matter a fact Daniel Ipperti's own site contains several tutorials in which he shares his painting techniques with us.

The veins are awesome. Personally, I'm not sold on the hair though. I think most attempts to depict a hair texture on horses are out of scale and actually UNrealistic. Just my opinion though.

I was thinking along those lines. Acrylic medium (Golden/Liquitex) can be manipulated with water however. Tell you what: I am going to give it a try and report back.

I do hope for Daniel Ipperti to enlighten us though!

There was a full tutorial in Daniel Ipperti's old site. I think he said there he used Pebeo Coating Medium to sculpt the veins. He placed a little blob of that product on the horse and then pulled the veins from it with a thinner dipped brush
  6. Can I help you ? :)

    Hello Daniel,

    I hope so  !

On the "3 Pieds ...... " forum I found pics in a thread about your Pegaso 75 mm Decurio Equitum. It shows how you achieve veins and hair on a horse.

Pf member P Green reminded me of your old site which had many tutorials one of them describing how this is done.

Apperently you use an Acrylic medium by Pebeo. But they have several. Which one? And how is it manipulated? With water like most acrylic mediums? And how do you actually create the overal hair effect?

Yesterday I experimented a bit using Golden medium. I did get some results but not to my satisfaction.

Like Ron points out many of us would be interested to know how this is done.

Do you still have the original tutorial (I can read French)?

  9. It is not an acrylique medium: it's a coating médium by Pébéo (in french médium d'empatement) for oil colours and the solvents are mineral spirit or turpentine (white spirit in my case). It's an opaque paste for building thick layers as I simply do. The "hairy texture" :) 's done with a curled dentist tool, if I could found a photo I will show you how it look like. The process is very simple, dilution of the paste with white, to make it "creamy" application with a soft brush as thin and regular as possible, wait until the product dry a little bit and lose its adhésive capability , and texturing with the dentiste tool.
