Had this for a wee while and am trying new things with leather, but essentialy it's still Rons' technique

Sculpted by Offo it's a ww2 soviet pilot wearing a leather flying cap.He is also wearing a leather flying jacket I have plans for and will post about later.

I wanted the leather distressed and so tried to add another twist.

Firstly he was painted Vallejo leather belt, washed with more dark red and then washes of light flesh, german camo beige, orange rust and some deck tan for extreme highlights. the orange really seems to merge with the oils to make a great worn look in bits so Ill do more orange on the jacket I think.

Some yellow ochre oil paint applied on some broad highlights and some raw umber applied on some shadows and seams.

Some nutella applied...oops make that a mix of raw umber, burnt umber and burnt sienna with a touch of yellow ochre applied liberally.

Then using brushes and make up sponges remove and blend oil paint as you see fit. You can really see the tones of the orange come through on the top of the cap which stand out really well.

The oils are still wet and so are shiny. I will drybrush orange rust, german camo beige and deck tan next and then run some oil washes over the cap finishing with some very dark pinwashing at the seams.

Very nice technique, excellent SBS! Thanks.
Oils really are good at imitating the subtle sheen of leather. May have to revert back to them for that, hm....

    Cheers

Great technique and result. A lot of thought (and trial and error?) has obviously gone into this.
