I bought this figure at Euromilitaire back in 2012, if my memory serves me correctly. Partly because I am interested in European Armies of the mid and late 19th Century and partly because the figure is sculpted by Nino Pizzichemi whos work I really like to collect. The box art is by R. Giannino.

The figure is well cast with no air bubbles and almost no moulding lines; those that I had to clean off were minimal and thankfully none on the face.

According to the painting guide the figure is a Cadet of the military Academy in campaign uniform circa 1885. I am guessing the figure represents a soldier from the Massowa campaign. The jacket is dark blue with, brass buttons, the trousers are 'crude burlap', which I've since found out is a type of hessian cloth, in a natural colour. The boots are similar to those worn by Alpine troops without gaiters.

I did show the figure to a friend who was bowled over by the rifle that comes with the figure, it turns out this was originally a bolt action rifle that the Italian Army converted to an early magazine rifle. Now I am no expert so he could have been telling me a load of rubbish but the detail on the rifle and the figure over all is very, very good.

I am looking forward to painting this figure, time permitting.

    Cheers

    Hi Roy

Interested to see this short review.
I do know Niño is fastidious about details, especially I suspect even more so for his Italian subjects

Thanks for taking the time to share

    Hi Mike
Yes the detail is great but I think I've dropped a clanger positioning his head (see picture below WIP). However I have a plan because if this figure is a depiction from the Massowa campaign in North Africa, I see Mantis do a range of small animals for that region http://www.mantisminiatures.pl/EN/14,0,Animals.html

So what I am thinking is putting one of these little blighters on the edge of the base so it looks like he's looking down at it. Hopefully that'll solve my fau par  Fingers crossed I can pick a box up at Euro.

    Cheers
    Roy

Hello friends, this is a wonderful piece of Nino Pizzichemi. Although it is a few years old it is very nice! I've painted some time ago and I really enjoyed doing it
