Yesterday I have got a surprising package...:

    ...with my little cossack inside...:

There are seven parts of resin...:

    First of all the base...

    ...the legs...

    ..Torso and arms...:

    ...and finally the head...:

The Resincast is by far the best I have held in my hands! There are minimal cleanings behind the ears and on the boot tops nessescary!

The parts fit very well together...:

In whitemetall there are the sabre...

...the end of the sash and the sabre belts...:

Please note: The retail version of the figure that you can buy at Markus will be completely made of white metal - there is only my copy in Resin!

A week from today I will be at the Workshop of an friend in Bavariy - high time to prepare something for it!

I decided to take the head of the dancing Cossacks with me to the workshop - and I have prepared today.

The first two minimal burrs are removed carefully into the undercuts behind the ears ...:

Then the neck at the bottom is drilled carefully ...:

Finally the head is cleaned carefulkly with water, washing liquid and an old toothbrush to get separating fats and dust away ...:

Then the head is mounted with a toothpick on a cork. I use "UHU" to glue - because you get the connection after painting well apart again ...:

As the last step I primed the small head - as always with "Army Painter gray" ...:

The dark undercoat lets the beautiful facial features that Markus has modeled, well emerge ...:

Finally, I make for the small head his "travel bed" and take precautions against brute Customs hands (since I'm going to take the plane to Munich) ...:

So - the workshop can come ...!

First, the hardness test: With the early flight to Munich (getting up at 3:30 arrgghhhh!), and then - by car, another 150 km's to Rosshaupten in Sputhern Bavaria.
There, at the workshop of Markuns, there's no autumn but the most beautiful late summer. It has been good crazy to sit again at 25 degrees on a bench in the sun - the last warm days added this summer.

But it was a painting workshop and which I will now report.

    First step:

Draw the eyes - I'll do it, because only when the head is always ready, I get a relationship with a character of an figure.

The first brush strokes that were beyond difficult for me. After a half year break and - after getting off so early - unusually shaky hands, like a bllody fool I have felt. A nice colleague was kind enough to help ...:

By joining forces, the eyes of the little Cossack emerged - on (in the photo!) Left eye I have painted over the edge ...:

The "rest" of the face should be painted with oil colors - for me (almost) a completely new medium, since it requires completely different techniques and approaches.

Once an underpainting with acrylic paint ...:

Markus explained to me "oil" then in detail ...

    After that I've tried myself.

To use these colors came - of course in different mixing conditions ...:

And I've noticed that the oil remedies for my trembling hands much better, since you were "move" the colors in the wet state to the figure on blending partially, so mistakes can far better iron out again, as with acrylic colors if you paint next!

During the painting breaks I had a look to the others intensively - THIS is one of the advantages of a workshop!

At the end of the day my head looked like - he is still wet and therefore shines pretty ...:

    3rd Day, October 11, 2014

On the second day of the workshop I have first of all painted the locke and the mustache of my little head - this time with acrylics ...:

Next were oral cavity, tongue and lips made - with these colors ...:

And finally the teeth - also with acrylics ...:

Then I very cautiously went on experimenting with oils on the skin tones ...:

And this was the little head at the end of the second workshop day - it is still wet and shines a bit ...:

    Conclusion:

The skin tones I like more and more and working with oil paints starts to make me fun.

The teeth need to be much brighter, the eyebrows are still missing - and then to our friend still get a beard shadow ...
