Does any one know of any good tutorials on matching real world colors in Oil paints?
It's a subject I'm still struggling to grasp.

The books by William Powell are great in this respect. Look up what you want to paint in the index (e.g. Eggshell or mahogany wood etc.) and it points you to the correct mix. There are 3 books (general mixes, mixes for portraits and mixes for landscapes) and also an omnibus containing the contents of all three books (this is the one I have). Definitely worth every penny.

    Hope this helps,
    Billy :)

If you can get a copy: Color Theory and Application by Bob Knee. It took me some years to get one, but it's always near my painting desk.

I second Billy! The William Powell books are very helpful! I got mine at Hobby Lobby some while back. ANd thanks to the other contributors on this thread...I see some suggestions that look to be of great help for me as well!

All of the advice here is sound and has helped me over the years. I have accumulated these books and also keep a record of colour mixes quoted by members of the forum together with downloaded colour photos. I copy these into word and keep them in a binder for a point of reference when I am a bit stuck for a mix.
If you are a Oil painter Konrad Schulte of Fredericus Rex has a superb CD Rom for around 15 Euros which you download onto your computer and provides mixes for almost every situation. It was real labour of love on his part to produce it but a great tool for the oil painter.
