Does anyone have an idea where the next world expo will take place ?
Usually there are rumours during the Week end .Names of possible kandidates are then released.

There appears to be a Chicago bid going in. That's good news for North American modellers.

Well, I just checked the Airline price and a retour ticket is almost € 2000,-.... ( I checked for 1 july till 3 july 2015) . And I must have a pasport instead off a ID card. That will cost more. The rules travelling from the EU to USA are to heavy.
This one will pass my door.

Well I have travelled to the US a few times and my experience is that it is exactly the same distance going from here to there as it is going from there to here.

When we flew from Las Vegas NV USA to Paris France to go to WE Montreux, we got on many lists and searched each day 6 months before the flight to take place and we got round trip flight $700US each on a very small airline out of France.
I just searched Kayak and found for a flight next week on SAS, from Paris France RT to Chicago $1640US (1221 euros approx.) On such short notice this is a high price. I did an arbitrary search for arbitrary date in march 2015, more than 6 months from now, Paris to Chicago on LOT Polish Air nonstop to Chicago, $813US Dollars RT, (605.47 Euros) which is cheaper than what I paid to go to my last World Expo. If you search properly, you can find reasonably priced flights from Europe to Chicago. You must plan it as a large trip and also do creative planning and you can make it happen. I used european accommodations sites and recommendations from friends and found good places to stay.
We will put together lists of suggested places to stay and transportation routes just as the European WE's have done.
I hope to see you all there at WE in Chicago!

Looking at the SAS schedule for June 2015, Stockholm(Venice of the North) - Chicago is about 700:- € back and forth. Abouth twice as much as going to Milano but three times the distance.
Additionally hotel and food is usually cheap in the US even if I havent been there since Boston 2005.

Well you gotta keep us updated for the transportation routes.
From the Netherlands it is possible to fly from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht. Some can fly from Brussels or Charleroi.
Many of the small airports have no possibilities to fly to the USA.

If next WE will happen in US again, will be just for Americans and for some Europeans and Asians with a great income.:bored:

I guess that's the problem. The centre of gravity of the hobby is now in Europe. If it's really going to be a World Exoo it needs to move around the globe periodically, at least where the hobby is reasonably represented. International travel is costly and transporting models is logistically challenging. But to leave the expo only in Europe risks turning it into a a Euro-only show and I think risks the international growth of the hobby. I think we need to keep tending all parts of the garden for the garden as a whole to thrive.

As far as I got it there was a lack of offers from US and other countries outside Europe to cope with the organization of such an event in the recent past. Therefore it is great to learn that Chicago might come up with such an offer. It will give modellers from (and around) US a better chance to visit the show and I am with Colin - it is called the World Expo - unfortunately my wallet does not allow the journey - but this forum gives everybody a chance to take a glance at the showroom thanks to the members that post their pics.

I am very excited about the prospect of a World Expo on this side of the continent. I had a chance to attend one in Girona in 2008, and have always wanted to go to another. It might be a sad truth that many of our European friends might find the distance to be too much, but on the other side there will be many North Americans that will be able to attend now, whereas before the expos in Europe were similarly out of reach. My best wishes to the MMSI committee on their bid!

We'll see how many candidates for a future organization!
Europe has won more times because it has more candidates. In almost the same area of US or Canada Europe have huge number of countries with the same interest in the hobby.
ALways want visit the Blues city. ;)

The "world" seems to only exist in the Northern Hemisphere. Spare a thought for the poor old aussies and kiwis who have to sell one of their children to get to either Europe or North America.

Perfectly know what you are talking about - my German daughter has got a Kiwi boyfriend - therefore my wallet does not allow a visit to Chicago :) - I have no more kids to sell:D.

I can understand your reluctance to commit ....... after all Ron Tamburrini bought a Dirndle in Ingolstat this year and apparently has worn it continually since. :)
The problem some of us have is that as well as the ticket price there are the various hidden surcharges. That said more Europeans would attend than North Americans attend the European editions of Expo.

Well if it's anywhere in North America I will be going, I missed Boston due to work and have regretted it every since.
