    Hi everyone
    This proud little chap here
    [IMG]
Wondering if some one could enlighten me as to what is actually happening on the top of the hat?
where do all these braided cords and tassels end up? Is it a one single cord that goes in a loop from one tassel to another? or is there something on top - like a top of a hat?

Has any one got any references from the back/top or may be a quick schematics?

I would really appreciate some insight. Thank you in advance

This is taken from my Imperial Guard bust by Carl
Front cord and tassels removed for campaign as the plume

The cord loops round and connects to the tassels as on this Romeo figure
2 tassels on the side hanging from two plaited roundels going up to either end if the loop
Sorry for bad pic, I can take better if you don't see this properly
They are hanging on top of each other here

    Hi Gaudin,
Certainly mate, sorry for late reply.
I have the Andrea 90 mm which I can show you, once you see it is obvious and you probably have the idea already.
Will post over the weekend but you can also email or message if you want anything else.
My library on french napoleonics is pretty good so got plenty of pics if needed.
    Best wishes

I believe the two tassles and flounders (rondelles) are the two ends of the braided cord... the cord wrapped around the bearskin with the two ends fastened at the top, right side of the cap, leaving the rondelles/tassles to hang down the right side to just above the ear. The loop of the braided cord hangs lower on the left side of the cap, below the cockade and plume. The top of the cap is a round, red patch of fabric with a white grenade embroidered in the centre (for Grenadiers... a white cross for Chasseur a Pied). A small tassle the same colour as the other cords hangs from the front.

Gra is correct that all the decoration... Plume and cord/rondelles/tassles would be removed on campaign. The Tri-colour cockade may or maynot have been worn on campaign.

What project are you reseaching for?

    Colin, perfect.
I forgot to mention colours :) bad me.
I am too excited on this project.
I have seen Gaudin sculpting and I know he appreciates earlier times :) but I would love to see what comes out here.
I liked his plague doctor for the historical and sculpting side and actually read about it after, it looked so obscure that I had to read up. They believed leather and a mask with hebs/scent would save them, truly fascinating.
Sorry to derail, Gaudin if you progress with this I will be very interested either to cast for you or to talk more. But I realise it is very early days both sides :)
We all love the passion and intrigue and the mystery

    Thank you guys,that really helped.
I am going to add to a mystery and say that it isnt Napoleonic subject at all, but a bearskin hat that is very very similar:) .... and its 1890- 1910's :)

Thanks... I wasn't sure about that detail. I've seen paintings of the stripped down bearskin with and without the cockade so I wasn't sure how it should have been... Thought it was the preference of the individual Grenadier. Should have known better... no room for preference in the uniform regs of a unit like the Imperial Guard

Thanx for the clarification... it's going in the memory bank (y)
