I'm in the middle of painting this bust and have noticed there is variation on the colour of the white jacket he's wearing.I've noticed a beige type colour and a white colour.Any info regarding this query would be most helpful.

I used Titanium white,Madder brown,Yellow Ochre and a touch of blue.All oils over a enamel undercoat of Humbrol 250.

Hello Brian, I was going to post you the same photo as Carl's, which has the correct pattern, as on the bust. Here's another one that is close. It seems to be more of an off-white cream color. I have seen Carl's photo, where the colors have been beige, to a very light fawn color. Maybe you could use a combination of the two colors? These type of coats came from many sources, so the colors are probably just as varied. By the way, the face on your bust looks amazing, great pair of eyes, and excellent skintones. Looking awesome so far.
I am attaching different colour variations ,that the fur sheepskin overcoat can be painted.
There is no "correct" or "wrong",cause this was not a standard issue for the soldiers.
All of these can be used with variations.

Hi Barrie
The madder brown I use is no longer available.It was originally by Rowney's cheap oil paints Georgian but they've discontinued it.There is a brown madder which is easily got but it's not the same as the madder brown,so I would suggest using burnt sienna or any other reddy brown.I always mix the white and mader brown together first and then use some ochre to suit and then a touch of blue to grey it down.I use more Tit white for the highlights and the Brown madder for the deep shading.I never finish a face by wet on wet technoques but I establish the faces features,then when it's all dry I use wet on dry oils to increase the contrasts.
