The boots are wrong as well, the lightweight NI issued boots didn't have a toecap like the DMS boot, the DMS was only an ankle boot as well, and worn with puttees.

You guys must've been lucky and had good Tara's then, I was issued my NI Boots in 1980, they never had toecaps, not saying it's unheard of, our Battalion never had them, and by the time I did my 2nd tour, we were on the new High Leg boots, around 85?
Nobody in our Battalion had extended DMS either, as they had to conform with SOP's..and our QM was a tossser.

I was in palace bks 1980 and no we didn`t have toe caps either, I cant remember sculpting them on, so not sure why I did! but it seems its not so incorrect and it would be an easy fix to scrape them off. Our battalion had more doc martens than Belfast slippers.:)

We were never allowed in these days to have beret style T O' S's either, when in camp, but we shaped them when deployed, only the Senior ranks wore theirs like berets.. and they were of a different make and colour than the Jocks anyway. Nowadays it seems more fashionable to wear it beret style. We also started receiving black metal cap badges during the 1980 tour.
