An intentionally simple two figure vignette suggested by Kreston Peckham several years ago. At the time I didn't follow up, but eventually...

Basically two soldiers fighting for survival in No Man's Land surrounded by lethal gas. The German soldier has run out of ammunition for his Mauser rifle. Both soldiers have discarded a lot of equipment to enable them to fight and survive.

1/16th scale, parts from several kits, the putty is Magic Sculpt and Kneadatite - mixes. I have clear lenses for the German Draeger and British PH gas masks. They would have to be fitted by the painter, of course. I don't intend to paint this myself...looking for a collaborator.

I still need to clean each figure thoroughly, but otherwise the vignette is done.

    Hope you like it!

    All the best,
    Dan

Dan, it's a nice idea well executed...well done.
I have one criticism though, and that's the way the trench club is held. It appears to be being held aloft like a torch rather than gripped as a club.(most clearly seen in fig.5).
I think it should be at about 45degrees and more tightly gripped.......hope that's clear enough...cheers.

Eissteban, Steve, Matt and Mark - Many thanks for your comments!

Mark - Yes, the club doesn't look quite right does it? I didn't notice until you pointed it out. I'll see what I can do about that this weekend.

    All the best,
    Dan

    Hello Dan,

    Terrific work!
I notice the rifle gets shifted around, with our without the bayonet. You may want to extend the base to "protect the overhangs, including the German's legs?

Interesting how trench warfare resulted in the use of medieval type weapons for close quarter combat.

    Nicely executed vignette.

A great dynamic scene with terrifying and tragic overtones. This is a war.
It would still soften and clean, make readjustments draperies (smooth out with sandpaper), and I also agree with Mark S, but even now it looks very interesting:)(y) . Cheers Borek

swralph, Steve, Kenneth and John - Many thanks all! I have moved the club into a different position on the hand and will resculpt the fingers and thumb over the weekend. Hopefully I can find a better looking result! Steve - yes I remember Marijn's scene - very dramatic and well composed. His scene involves two French (I think) soldiers battling over one gas mask. My scene is a bit more pedestrian.

    All the best,
    Dan
