Hello guys!

It was a long time that I wanted to paint this piece, a 75mm by Pegaso Models.
It 'a fantastic sculpture, in my opinion one of the best releases of recent years.

Is not a piece for beginners, its decomposition is great but complex and required a careful study regarding the lineup of paintings steps to follow. In fact I started from the bottom rather than from above as my usual.

On this occasion I also thought about a setting a bit prettier than my usual, which are very poor!
For the first time I dealt with the reproduction of the water, I have to say even with a good result.

The piece is all in acrylic (only a bit of oils for the setting) , I will update soon with new shots until the end.

Sorry...the photos are not the best, I'm not a good photographer ... and also in English are not a phenomenon, but thanks to google translator I hope you can understand a little bit!

Great start, awesome skin tones.
I've had this fig for ages and have been afraid to start it for the very reasons you described... so many sub-assemblies. And the beadwork and feathers are a bit intimidating too.
I will be following your approach to this piece very closely so post LOTS of WIP pics, please. Maybe a hint on your skintone mix, too.

Magnificent work! Seems like a complex piece indeed. Even though the pictures only show bits and pieces, they already show great paintwork.

Very clever job on the water. Most water products tend to have high surface tension, which results in those very unrealistic and out of scale edge effects around objects. Love how you solved this by adding the turbulent surface at the end. Was it done with acrylic paste? It looks really nice!

Great work Luca,I wouldn't worry too much about the photography as I'm the same when it comes to taking pictures,as you said this is a very nice kit,I'm painting an Indian myself at present and I'm getting to like the subject,I may be tempted to get this one as well.

How long do you have to wait after the resin water sets before removing the plastic retainer?

some answers:

this is the second Indian I paint and I modified a bit of a mix suggested by another painter friend, all Vallejo references:

955 carne mate (about 10%)
860 medium fleshtone (about 10%)
846 mahogany (about 30%)
921 english unif. (about 25%)
947 vermilion (about 5%)
822 camo pardo negro (about 20%)

shadows adding:
859 cadmium marron
822
and for the last adding 822 and 979 fark green

lights adding:
845 carne dorada (sunny skintone)
and the last adding 815 (carne base)

I use very dilute mixtures and thus step several coats of paint in order to have a transparency and a faded that does not bring out the brush strokes. In my opinion, the dilution is the secret to the use of acrylics.

For the water I used the resin bi-component of the Italian company Prochima (E30 water)

I stretched three different layers of resin leaving that each of them harden before giving the next. Between one layer and the other I waited 24 hours.

In the first layer i added a bit Humbrol enamels (colors on brown and greenish, attention: just a little!!!), the second layer was also tinted but less so than the first. The last instead is pure resin.
This is to try to give an effect of depth

Yes Adrian, the turbulent surface was made using acrylic paste of Vallejo, the water effects (transparent water). It 'easy to apply, just a spatula or an old paintbrush. And 'quite a moldable gel. I have noticed that it is better not to give very thick layers since I think that it loses in transparency, but it's just a opinion.

I think if you paint it will give you a lot of satisfaction!

Before removing the plastic retainer I waited a day and a half, but maybe it takes up to 24 hours.

Attention: for the plastic retainer use only acetate which has a surface completely smooth so that the resin does not opacify.

For the groundwork i started from a very dark color tone and i have used (Vallejo):

830 german fieldgrey
903 azul americano
822 german camo pardo negro
black from Andrea Color range

and a bit of:
884 stone grey
967 olive green
814 burnt cadmium red


the shadows adding 822 and black Andrea Color

the light adding 884, 986 marron cubierta and 883 silver grey
and then adding 951 white till using pure 951

then i gave different shades of color, green, aubergine, red ... with particular emphasis in the river bed ... after reaching the various nuances of color that I wanted I took some lights maximum (in particular those that will then be covered by the resin) using a white oil
