    hello people i would like to know if painting a hospitaler knight in the red garment ,i could paint black his cape? i know that they wore black and then it changed to red but i cant find a clue whether they still wore the black cape with the red garment! Any info would be more than welcome ,thanx!

    Yes, If you are depicting a brother knight post 1258 when the knights were authorized to wear a red surcoat to distinguish them from other members but the mantle was still black. I believe the the date to be correct but forgive me if I got it wrong as I am still trying to find concrete dates in my references. You may want to dig through the Military Orders thread over on El Paso Honroso forum as I know this was discussed before. Hope this helps and please correct me if I am wrong - Scott

    Bit like Order Of Saint Lazarus the Leper Knights that still do allot of work in parts of the world that have leprosy
