Sorry for a simple answer.

Because many people are so · · ·.

For cigarette first I painted white.

I painted on the opposite side of the gray and yellow ocher then.

I drew a ring of black and red.

I nudged ahead in black and white oil paint to last.

Beautiful painting. Theres no doubting your skill as a painter. In my opinion, the 5 o clock shadow looks a bit un-natural ... or too grey. It contrasts too much with the skin tone.
