    Hey All

This is my first attempt at a bust... or anything larger than 75mm for that matter. It's Young's Zaporozhian Cossack, my version of it anyway as we've seen more than a couple of this guy on here since it's release.

I worked in Vallejo acrylics keeping to a warmer feeling with beige red, basic skintone, carmine, burnt cadmium red and royal purple. I tried to keep the contrasts as natural as I could and kept the overall tone a bit dark as this guy would have spent most of his time outdoors in the saddle. The pics are a little lighter than "in the flesh".

Working at this scale is a whole other world from what I'm used to... will take some time to adjust and of course any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx Alex, this scale is totally alien... the first couple of passes were rubbish but it started getting more comfortable. Does the pallette sound familiar?

Are you going to the Hamilton show? There's no Guelph show this year.

Looks really Nice Colin! I'm not used to that scale so any help would be total speculation... but I only would try to work a little but more on the darker parts. I mean paint a little bit more shadows...
The eyes look great, with great expression, the hair parts too...
I think that Borodino is a kind of long term project yes?
    Keep up ;)

Colin - cool. I see the genetic resemblence.

No Guelph? That's a pity as it was a lot of fun and is geographically convenient. Hamilton it is then as I won't be doing the fall east end show after last year's lengthy delays at the back end. Maybe I'll try Chicago first time instead.

Thanx everyone for the kind comments, I wasn't very confident going into this one but I'm feeling better after last night's session.
Once I get some of the surrounding colours done (hat and shirt) I'll revisit the face... Sometimes these will affect the the skintone. Just like wearing different colour clothes will affect your complextion... I'd say this guy's a 'winter' ;)

As for Borodino... I figured I should keep painting in between so I don't get rusty. Just a couple of weeks of sculpting and no painting and I could feel the ringrust. So to that end, yes, that diorama will be a long term project.

Colin, there may be a distant resemblence, especially when I had the Fu Manchu 'stash, but I don't think this guy has had his nose broken as many times as me :blackeye: Therefore he's not nearly as handsome :troll:

    Thanx again everyone

Thanx Paul and Keith, much appreciated.
Thanx Greg, sorry, this guy's got no legs:nailbiting: so no Harley! However, you may have peeked behind the curtain on another scratchbuilt project I've been planning... Shhhhhh, super secret ;)

Hello Colin, That is really a great looking face. It looks very natural with the way you used the colors you described. Thanks for sharing the mix. Best of luck with its completion. Regards, SG:)(y)
