    Hi guys,

Inspired by the release of The Hobbit movie, I raced home on Boxing Day and got started on this figure from Knight Models.

As you can see these are still WIP pics, and the paint surface is still very shiny. Still a lot of work to be done on the blue cape and the gold armor on the shoulders and arms.

Haven't started on the head yet.

Let me know what you think.

Off to a good start, Tony - looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.
I knew you'd be there on the Boxing Day release - bet you were first in line at Hoyts ;)

G'day Nick, yes, I actually pre-booked my Hobbit tickets back in mid-December and couldn't wait for Christmas Day to finish so I could get to the cinema on Boxing Day. I'm ashamed to admit I was quite excited at the prospect of returning to Middle Earth again. Can't believe I have to wait another 12 months for the next installment.

I hope Knight Models follows through on its LOTR series and completes figures of all the key characters in the trilogy. I have to say its a bit "hit & miss" so far.

I really liked the Boromir and Gandalf figures which came out first, but the more recent Aragorn and Gollum figures didn't really excite me. I wonder too, will the four Hobbits from LOTR be sculpted in scale with the other figures in the range so they can be used together in dioramas and vignettes, or will they be 70mm in size like the other figures in the range?

There may be a nice looking Legolas figure in the works it seems! Hopefully Knight Models will continue to expand the range and do some of the other characters...

I know what you mean... I already saw the movie twice, in 3D and without. I read some chronicles criticizing the movie... Can't say that I thought thet were right.... People forget that the history itself is very differente from LOTR...much lighter... I loved the filme... I shouldn't say this but I already found on the Internet a nice quality torrent, and downloaded... I just had to... Can't wait without seeing it.

About the figures, I don't have none YET, but are they worth?

    Regards
    Pedro

    GReat start.
I've seen the movie also in 3D. AS a fan for LOTR I believe The Hobbit is a must seen to.

I do consider myself a Tolkien fan, Tony, maybe not as much as yourself, but I can say that after in depth consultation and interrogation with Mrs S. that around Christmas day/Boxing day I was doing a very good impression of Legless apparently.....that's the archer guy, right?
Anyway enough of that nonsense, lovely start to this one Tony, I reckon your love of Tolkien always comes through in the great results with your LOTR figures!...cheers mate.

It's fearfully hot in Perth at this time of year - the height of the Australian summer and that makes modelling a chore. It's over 30 degrees celcius by 6am.

I've struggled to get myself into the hobby room and do any painting this week, however I did manage a few hours over the weekend on Elrond.

There's still plenty to do, including adding the sword scabbard and detailing it, but most of the effort will go into detailed painting of that billowing cape and adding some weathering touches to make it look like he's in battle against Sauron's orc army.

    Hope you like. IMG_0395.JPG IMG_0396.JPG

He's really taking shape, mate. The face is looking great, you've definitely captured the way Hugo Weaving looked as Elrond.
I also like how you've painted the sheen on his pulled-back hair, very subtle.
If you make it to the Feb HMFS meeting, make sure you bring this little guy and your other latest - I'd love to see them up close.

In my eyes he looks already better than the boxart that sonetimes disguises the true potential of this sculpts a little.
    All the best, Martin

Hi Nick, thanks for your comments mate. I'll be bringing Elrond along to our next club meeting in February, along with a few other figures I'm trying to finish.;)

Hi Grant, thanks mate. I really should be thanking my optivisor:D

Hi Martin, flattery like that will get you everywhere:love: I'm glad you like it.

Hi Boromir, I suppose you're hard-wired to like this figure mate. LOTR rocks. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Zeno, thank you for your positive comments. I've done a little bit more to Elrond overnight and he's starting to look the business. Glad you like him.:)

Hi Carl, if I can whinge about the tarmac on the roads melting in an Australian summer I suppose you can whinge about a bit of rain in England in winter (and summer). Glad you like the metals.
