I agree. The anatomy of the figure is a bit fatty and short legged, in a similar way as the carnifex of Alexandros that you painted, but I like it because is something different.

Without being an expert on the topic Eduardo, the bronzed body builder types depicted in films/TV etc. of Gladiators is wrong and they specifically "fattened up" before contests as extra body fat provided a (minor) element of protection against slashing type injuries. Indeed, they were known as "Barley Eaters" in Roman times by virtue of their barley enriched diet which was very high in calories and fat content. Also, look at any Roman period depictions of Gladiators and they are ALWAYS 'stocky' types with no-one displaying any 'six pack' abs! The Romans like all classical cultures were masters at depicting the human body form, so their "fatty" depiction of gladiators in their contemporary artwork or statues etc. cannot be attributed to naive drawings or depictions by a primitive people.

As for the figure itself, I think it's tremendous and will most likely buy it. Just a shame it's not in 75mm!

Sergey, you have a very distinctive style of painting which I love, particularly your treatment of metals and the way you use oil washes.
Keep the figures coming, mate - they are absolutely inspirational!

I like that he's a bit fat looking, even if it's aesthetically less pleasing it's more how they should look. And lots of the details look well done.

But the legs, they really are too short sorry!

I'm sure all people in Roman times had perfect dimensions in their limbs which matched their body size to the millimetre. Ther'e absolutely no way on this God's earth that a Gladiator would have slightly shorter legs than the norm...........is there?;)
Brilliant bit of sculpting especially in 54mm, just awesome.

No, there's no chance that any model is wrong on any detail, ever... see, using sarcasm doesn't give a point added validity :bored:

    Excellent painting, Sergey!

Friends when I molded this gladiator, I was guided by the historical documents which have reached up to now. Length of feet correspond to its growth. I least wanted to do bodibilder in an image of gladiators :) as it can be seen in modern cinema.
Gary, you correctly everything told my friend, I too am fond of gladiators.

Very nice painting , the treatment of the whites is superb , as for the anatomy I seen some pretty short arsed brickies in my time and the
general impression of us are of a huge beer swigging monster , people then were not like we are now ,
