Ladies and Gents,
Well, I finally managed to finish this one! This project has been a real bear... I got discouraged with it more than once but in the end, I'm glad I stuck it out. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome... hope it pleases you as well.

The figure is a Masterclass 54mm piece in white metal, based on the painting by Theodore Gericault. It happens to be one of my favour paintings of this era. It's painted entirely with Vallejo acrylics. The base that came with the kit is extended to the edges of the base with A/B Putty.

Congratulations on pulling it off! Seems like a lot of work this piece!

For the next one, maybe you could mix some light brown colour with the metallic gold paint to dull it down slightly. The gold thingies seem to be a bit on the bright side, at least in the pictures. A dramatic piece nevertheless!

However I agree with Adrian above, you have to work those goldbdraids. I was lost also in there but saw a figure here in PF where the modeller explain how do it and so I did it. You should try it, it will look better Despite this is very good.
So what comes next??

When I was painting my ADC Marshall Suchet 75mm Pegaso I had to paint lots of goldbraids not knowing how to do it. Happens that I found this thread and liked the way that goldbraid was painted and fortunately the painter (slaj) explained out to do it in a comment below the pictures. I did it as he says and I like the result.
Try out and see.

Way to stay with it Colin. The result has made the effort well worth while. You have your own mini-Gericault. As I said earlier, I have this figure somewhere in the basement and I am not looking forward to it. But your effort gives me hope that its worth finishing.

Wow Colin,finally did it and looks great!!!.
As for the gold braids a good and easy solution is to "wahs it few times with their "sepia" wash ,i find this to be a very helpful product and dull it down really well.
I am happy to see this piece finished, coulpe of pics are a little dark and show different "colors" on it,you may want to try other tipes of light?.
Nevertheles ,your painting skills are better and better with every figure and this masterpiece deserves to be mention, your ground works is awesome by the way.

Thank you everyone for the very kind words... I am humbled.
For the most part I am happy with the final result here... For those who mentioned it, the gold braidwork is my least favourite part of the whole thing. The mix I used was the same I used on 75mm scale but I think it lost some effect on the smaller scale, the gold became too strong. I think it might need to be toned down some... very carefully
As for the pics, I tried a couple of different things and I like the darker ones. I was trying to get the same kind of tone as the painting.


I wish I could paint a panel for the background, like the painting... that would be cool.

Again, I appreciate the kind words and encouragement, both now and while I was struggling with this one. The advice and positive words helped me get through it.
