Ceremonial Studios did a nice version of this in 80mm around 1985-1990, sculpted I believe by the late Richard Almond. I have a painted one in the cabinet and sold a spare kit about a year ago. Worth buying if you can get your hands on one.
Masterclass have also re-released the Gericault "Wounded Cuirassier Officer retreating.

While reading through this thread I went to my bookshelf and found in "Color Treasury of Model Soldiers", the figure Ron Tamburrini spoke of. Ray Lamb was the modeller who converted a 54mm Historex plastic kit to the high bar of the day. My book, published in 1972, has a nice 10" X 10" photograph by Philip Stearns of the mounted masterpiece.
Take your time Colin this piece will be a test. Cheers Gord.

    Great mind jogger Gord.
I still have (somewhere:confused:) the Historex catalogue that featured the model full page in black and white inside.
    Fantastic modeller Ray Lamb.

You are right this was the piece which established Ray's reputation as a modeller and raised the bar on what could be achieved-probably one of the most celebrated conversions of all time.

Thank you Marc, yes that is the one I was thinking of. Although it is just a drawing I've done some of the other figures from the same range and can vouch for their quality.

    Hi Guys,
I did look at this one, Alexander Wilken pointed this out to me on his website but if you compare the two the angle is a little too shallow. If I could see the actual casting I would probably buy it but as you say Roger it is only a drawing.
    Cheers,
    Keith
PS. I am sure that there is a French company that have done a flat version of this and the Manet Pfifer painting. Any clues Roger?

I have this 30mm flat by SEGOM. Excellent detail and casting.

SEGOM has some other fine flats too.

Now there's a coincidence, the flat of Manet's painting of the fife player is also by SEGOM.

I can't see the pics Felix has posted but I assume they are of the Chasseur?

    Thank you Guys.
    Beautiful figures.
Sorry you cannot see them Roger but; the casting is sharp, the figure angle is spot on, the ground work includes the damaged canon wheel and the task is daunting (30mm is almost the size of my smallest brush).;)
Thank you for the time and trouble you have taken. Now I will be looking for tips and advice.
    Cheers,
    Keith

You're welcome Keith, are you going to have a stab at the 30mm SEGOM? Or perhaps both of them. ... why not. ;)
If you think I might be able to help please give me a shout I'll be pleased to assist in any way I can.

I will try the 30mm to begin with, at 7 euros you cant go wrong!!!
Thank you for your kind offer of help, I am sure that there are some subtle and different techniques on flats that need to be mastered.

    Cheers,
    Keith

Great to see those Rousselot designs available, I just love these - straight from the Historex catalogues. And the Detaille paintings as flats too! Will have to save up for some. Thanks for the link Roger.

You're welcome Mat, they are very nice figures but not cheap, actually 7 euro is quite expensive for a 30mm figure but probably still worth the money for the subject and the hours of entertainment they'll provide.

    Is it 30mm or 54mm? 7euro seems a lot for a 30mm figure.

    Hi Confucius.
You are all at sea.......ah. Roger...you actually are at sea. I think?
I have ordered the SEGOM version that is both 30mm and 7 euros.
Having never bought a flat figure I thought this was reasonable for a mounted figure. What would you normally expect to pay for such a figure. The Fifer, again 30mm, was 4 euros.
    Cheers,
    Keith

Keith, compare the prices with those in Alexander Wilken's webshop, Wilken's prices are about average

    Hi Roger,
I see what you mean; 10 mounted Napolionic Hussars for under 20 euros.
Thanks Mate and all the best for the rest of your trip.
