Hi Guys looking for advice on making snow and ice effects, for a fantasy style figure.Have used various mediums for snow, but am looking to do some frozen water and maybe icicles.Any help would be much appreciated.

I've modeled a fair bit of snow and ice in my time

I use allsorts to be honest,for fresh snow I use Woodland scenics snow a nice and fluffy look to it,slushy snow I use Snow cote and pva glue as it dries slightly transparent and the more coats you give the more opaque it becomes..also sand blasting powder and marble dust as they have that nice icy twinkle. For iceicles I use clear stretched sprue and pva,PVA glue has a ton of uses making this stuff Dave.

Microballoons is also excellent. It's made by Deluxe Materials and is found in hobby shops. It was created for the RC airplane guys as a filler.

Hi Dave glad to see you made it home OK.
I remember a few years ago at Euro admiring an American SF Humvee in Afghanistan, I think the modeller came from the KMK club, he portrayed the snow covered ground really well.
I mentioned this to a friend and as I recall the gent had used some material that is used in the insulation of clothing a flock like stuff but it worked really well, perhaps someone on PF could supply details of this stuff.

I always use for snow NaHCO3, natriumbicarbonaat, sometimes called bakingsoda.
It keeps white, easy to apply with white glue and it's very cheap.
