The bust is based on the monumental painting of Emperor Franz Joseph I in coronation dress for his Hungarian coronation, signed and dated Frankenberger 1870 (lower left) and inscribed Gew. Von A.J. Elias 1870 (lower right). Painted when Franz Joseph I was just 40 years old. The painting over 8 feet high, once hung in Schonbrunn Palace, Vienne Austria until sold at auction in 2002. The painting is now on display in the Cramer Museum.
