I think you must paint the shadow of the hand on the side of the head. You are forcing a particular lighted situation with this beauty, and you can't depend on the outside lighting to give you what would absolutely be there in life.
If one side of his face is moonlit, as you have painted it so, then the raised hand would cast a shadow on it.
I say you have to go all the way on this.

Phil, the lighting effect comes from the lantern carried in that hand so it would cancel out any shadow from the moonlight.

Andrew thank you for the answer. This was my thought exactly. I think Phil hasn't seen the bust with the lantern on it and his suggestion would be correct otherwise.
The finished piece hopefully will clear this matter.
